There are two options for the origin of the name Veronica. According to the first version, the name has Greek roots. Nika - that’s the name of the goddess who brought victory to the soldiers in every battle. But in the translation from Latin the name has a completely different meaning. It means “true image”, and it is believed that came from two words - vera icon. Incomplete coincidence with the name itself is due to incorrect pronunciation.

Veronica the Righteous, July 25
The first mention of the name Veronica is found in the Gospel. The book tells that back in the days of Jesus Christ, a woman lived in the ancient city of Paneada. For twelve years she suffered from painful bleeding. During this time, the woman plagued all her funds at the doctors, but she was not cured.
She heard of the miraculous healings of the people whom Jesus Christ touched. When the Savior carried his cross to Calvary, the woman began to go behind him, joining the crowd. When Jesus fell under the weight of the cross, Veronica leaned towards him, gave him water to drink and wiped his blood from his face. At the very moment when she touched the Savior, the woman felt that her illness was gone. From a touch of Jesus Christ, Veronica was healed after twelve years of suffering.
But this was not the only miracle that happened at that moment. When the woman came home, she saw that on the circuit board with which she wiped the face of Christ, his image appeared. A fragment of this canvas depicting the Savior is still considered a miraculous icon.
After her healing, a woman placed a copper statue of the Savior at her home. The grass that grew at the foot of it was miraculous. She healed other bleeding women from the disease. The copper statue was destroyed only during the reign of Emperor Julian the Apostate.
On the day of Angel Veronica, whose date falls on July 25, the church recalls the Righteous Holy and celebrates the miraculous appearance of the miraculous icon of Christ. By the way, some sources indicate that the woman bore a different name. She took the name Veronica after healing, and it was formed from the Latin words vera icon ("true image").
Veronica's birthday on July 30
Another angel day for women named Veronica falls on July 30th. On this date, the church recalls the martyr Veronica. However, information about who this woman was and how she was tormented for her faith in Jesus Christ was not preserved.
The days of Angel Veronica, which fall in July, are located very close to each other. That is why the parents of a girl with that name have the right to choose the
patron saint for their child.
Martyr of Virinea (Veronica). Orthodox angel day - October 17
In 304 AD, during the reign of the Roman emperor Diocletian, Christian persecution was not only not prohibited, but also welcomed. Because of this, believers were simply doomed to death. Christian Veronica, along with her mother and sister, at the same time was forced to flee Antioch. They stayed in the neighboring city of Edes. Hence, the word Edessa joined the name Veronica.
Not long the girl with her mother and sister remained free. The persecutors soon seized them and took them back to Antioch under escort. But true Christians waited for the soldiers to sit down to have dinner, put on the best clothes, turned to the Lord with a prayer and rushed into the boiling water. Veronica, her mother and sister were martyred, but did not fall into the hands of the persecutors.
The days of Angel Veronica are celebrated not only on July 25 and 30, but also on October 17. On this day, the Orthodox Church recalls a martyr named Virinea (Veronica), who suffered for her faith in the Lord.
