Monotowns are a legacy of the industrial era. Their occurrence is due to the modernization of the 20th century, which included a command management system, as well as a special distribution of the resource base. In the Russian Federation, there are 319 settlements that are in the status of single-industry. More than 15 million people live in them. Raising their level of security, as well as the economic and social development of these cities is a national task.
Local self-government cannot decide it separately. During the work of the fund, it is planned to actively draw on the experience of other countries. Single industry towns have several advantages. First of all, we are talking about a high concentration of educated people. There are settlements where the number of residents with secondary specialized and higher education is very significant. High-level infrastructure has been created in individual single-industry towns. Usually in such settlements there are powerful energy and engineering projects. They satisfy the needs of the main city-forming enterprise.
Separately, mention should be made of large plants. It is important that in many settlements, the city-forming enterprise is still operating today, which sets the organizational and economic structure of the territory. This fact can be considered positive, even if a certain plant does not reach full capacity. However, single-industry towns have serious problems that need to be addressed.
