Story
Southwestern State University was created on the basis of the Kursk branch of the All-Union Polytechnic Institute (for correspondence students).
In 1964, the first student enrollment was made. Initially, young people were trained in only two areas, namely, chemical fibers and mechanical engineering technologies. This year, more than 1000 students entered the university. In the first year of the work of Southwestern State University, a new engineering department has already been created. Then a general faculty appeared for part-time students in the fields of mechanics, construction, and energy. Then laboratories of general and organic chemistry, resistance of materials and physics were created. Interestingly, there was even an office of Marxism-Leninism. Big plans
In 1965, Southwestern State University (Kursk) singled out a new one, namely, chemical-technological, from the engineering department. This year they also create departments of metal science, metal technology, physics, material resistance, welding, and theoretical mechanics. At the same time, laboratories of molecular physics and mechanics, analytical, inorganic and general chemistry, optics and electricity begin to function. In addition, laboratory rooms for the fields of hydraulics, physical chemistry, industrial electronics appear. This year there was the first enrollment of students in the specialty in technology and equipment for welding industries.
1966 was scarce on events, probably because before that too much interesting and important for the university had happened. It is known that this year the military department began to operate.
In 1967, the faculty of public professions was opened, as well as the department of computer engineering. This year they also planned to build a new institute complex, which would consist of laboratories, a canteen, dormitories, a sports complex and a training center with 8 floors. Construction was planned on Vygonnaya Street, near the former airfield. This year they created the first computer center at the institute, recruited students at the faculty of instrumentation.
1970s
In 1970, the Department of Electrical Engineering began its work. A year later, the departments of labor protection, geodesy, and geology were already created. A new Faculty of Civil Engineering appeared, at which he trained young people in the areas of civil and industrial construction, and construction in agriculture. Then the Faculty of Chemical Technology became a mechanical and technological. in 1972, new specialties appeared in Southwestern State University (FSBEI HE), namely in heat supply and sewage systems.
Department Development
In 1974, the Department of Technology of Fiber Materials was established. Then the building of a new educational building was opened. A year later, another department appeared, namely, water supply. At this time, students are already being trained in specialties regarding mineral research. We also began training in the specialty regarding integrated field mechanization. In 1976, several more departments were created, namely, ventilation, mining, heat and gas supply. Later, the sanitary-technical faculty was created, which included the above-mentioned departments, as well as the department of scientific communism and philosophy.
By the end of the 1970s, faculties were practically staffed at Southwestern State University . By the fall of this year, more than 4,500 full-time students studied at the school, more than 1,000 in the evening, and more than 900 in the correspondence.
1980s
News of Southwestern State University quickly spread. At this time, a sanatorium opens, which becomes the first such institution in the higher education system. In 1984, the departments of architecture and wooden structures were created on the basis of the departments of building structures.
A year later, more than 6.5 thousand students are already studying at the university. At the same time, 4 thousand young people receive full-time knowledge. By this time, more than 400 teachers are working at the university, of which more than 200 are associate professors, and 7 are professors.
In 1987, graduate school was opened. After some time, the publishing and publishing department, as well as the department of licenses and patents, begin to work. Then a new department appears regarding the technology of electronic computers.
1990s at Southwestern State University (Kursk)

In 1922, a branch of information systems was created at FSBEI HPE South-West State University in Kursk. At the same time, the department of automation of production and industrial electronics began to work. A year later, new specialties appear, namely, the automotive industry, food production apparatus. The department of the Russian language, economics and management, constitutional law appears. At the university, a printing house begins to work.
In 1994, a number of departments, formerly owned by the Faculty of Humanities, were transferred to the Faculty of Law. A faculty of basic sciences is being created, where they study higher mathematics, philosophy, sports, theoretical mechanics, drawing and descriptive geometry. At the same time, training begins in the specialties of accounting and banking. The educational institution receives university status.
In 1995, a full-fledged faculty of economics appeared at Southwestern State University (South-Western State University). It includes a number of departments. At the same time, in 1996, the Department of Applied Mathematics was created.
After 2 years, the engineering department is replenished with the departments of sugar products and food production technologies. At the same time, a new department appears at the Faculty of Law. The Regional Center for Social Adaptation is actively developing, which deals with issues of employment and retraining of people discharged from military service.
2000s
In modern times, the department of food production machines is being transformed at the SBEI HPE Southwestern State University. This was followed by about 6 years of silence, when no particular transformations took place in the higher educational institution.
Finally, in 2007, the university was noted in the ranking of technical universities, according to the Ministry of Education. Then he takes 30-38 positions. In a year, more than 5,000 full-time students are already studying here, more than 3,000 are studying part-time, and less than 700 are studying part-time. The university teaches more than 500 teachers, of which more than 50 are professors. By order of the rector, a structure of 8 faculties is being created, which, by the way, is still valid today.
Modernity
In 2010, serious adjustments were made to the charter of the educational institution at a meeting of the labor collective. The university gets its modern name. Also in the spring, the official website begins to work. In 2011, the university already has its own driving school, which trains future drivers.
In 2012, the staff of teachers is more than 600 people. In 2013, the number of university students, according to the HPE programs, amounted to more than 11 thousand people.
