Do not steal: the commandment of Jesus Christ. 10 Commandments: the history of their appearance, concept, meaning and punishment for sins

So strange, we call upon God, we ask from Him for help and intercession. What do we know about the Lord and His laws? At best, the story of how God created the earth and then sent His Son into the world. They crucified the Son, He rose again and returned again to the Father, to heaven. It is very short and exaggerated, of course.

Do we know the commandments of God? If so, that’s great. If not, let's learn and remember.

History of occurrence

The 10 commandments were given to Moses by Jesus Christ himself. How did this happen? This historical moment is described in the Bible. To speak very briefly about him, it was in Zion. Zion was in fire and smoke, thunder boomed, lightning shone. And in this element the voice of God suddenly uttered clearly, pronouncing the commandments. And then God drew the commandments given to them on two tables and handed them over to Moses. Moses stayed on the mountain for 40 days, and when he went down to the people, he saw that they had forgotten about God. People danced and had fun, galloping around a golden calf. From such a sight Moses became furious. He broke the tablets with the commandments. And only after the people brought repentance, God told Moses to make new tablets and bring him to re-write the commandments.

Next will be given all 10 commandments. For a more accessible understanding, they are given in a simple and concise language. Except the first, perhaps.

The wrath of moses

First commandment

We know the commandment "do not steal." But she is not the first in a row. What is the first one?

"I am the Lord your God ... May you have no other gods before me."

God is One. In Him is all wisdom. In Him is life. There are no other gods besides Him. By the will of God, the sun shines, it rains and the wind rises. By His will, grass grows, ants crawl, birds sing. By His will we are. We are healthy, we can walk, talk, think, breathe - all thanks to God. Only He has the right to control our life, for there is life.

The Lord gives everyone as much as necessary. He will not give the cross above human capabilities. All that we have God has given us. And He has the right to take His gifts when he sees fit.

God is only one

Second commandment

Do you think this is the commandment "do not steal"? No. The second commandment, to speak briefly about it, reads: "Do not make yourself an idol."

There is only one idol - this is the Lord. Creator of heaven and earth. Everything else is His creation. You cannot deify creation instead of the Creator.

The Lord always takes care of us. The fact that He allowed every inhabitant of the earth to be born, to see the light created by God, is not a reason for gratitude and glorification? But what do we do instead of giving thanks to God? We grumble at His providence for us. Or we think that people can help us. If we believe that our Creator is not able to help, then are creatures - people - stronger than God? Can they solve the problem that, it seems to us, the Creator of the world is not able to solve? Unlikely. Everything is within the power of God, and everyone can hope for His help. Everyone can ask for it.

To create an idol on earth, to worship a person or an idol is a sin and a great stupidity. And it’s even worse and absurd to worship what man himself created. For example, a certain rich man made capital. He did this because God allowed. And such a possessor of capital begins to proudly raise his nose, shake over his money, worship it like a deity. Isn’t it stupid? To consider an idol that tomorrow can depreciate overnight. And this instead of thanking God.

Modern idol

Third commandment

The commandment of Christ "do not steal," is it not the third? No, until we got to her. The third commandment is: "Do not pronounce the name of your Lord in vain." That is, do not call upon the name of the Lord without reverence and awe. Do not pronounce it as empty and ordinary words.

Imagine that a person is at work. And here he is called by name. A person breaks away from his activities and draws attention to the one who has called out. But he stands and is silent. The man begins his work again and hears again the call of the same one who called. He again breaks away from affairs, experiencing internal irritation. And the answer is silence. Everything is repeated for the third time, and here a person who is constantly being torn away from business just like that is unlikely to contain his irritation.

And what is it to God who has hundreds of works? And he is distracted from them, paying attention to the caller. And he is silent. And God is not annoyed, unlike man. Therefore, it is not necessary to pull the Savior in vain; He has enough things to do.

Fourth commandment

What is the commandment not to steal? Fourth? No, the fourth commandment says: "Work six days, and give the seventh to God."

What does this mean, how to understand? Labor is obligatory, without it a person cannot fully live. In addition, idleness is the mother of all vices. Our bodies, for example, work constantly. Why don't we force ourselves to work with our hands or work mentally? Six days a week go to work. And the seventh day is a day of rest. Not lying idly in bed watching television, not entertaining events, most often turning into "eating and drinking," but relaxing with God.

Go to the church for a liturgy, confess and receive communion. Returning home, thank God by reading the appropriate prayers. Remaining time to read about God, pray to Him in your own words, watch a good spiritual film. In the evening, before going to bed, thank the Lord again with all my heart. And in the morning proceed to work.

Fifth commandment

The commandment from the Bible, "Do not steal," what is it about the account? Very soon we will reach her. And now it is time to remember no less important. "Honor your parents."

Mom is the first word, the main word in our destiny. The first line of the children's song displays the whole essence of life. Mom bears her child, undergoing all the shortcomings of her position. Mom gives birth to a baby, suffering from pain. Mom does not sleep at night, knowing that her child is absolutely helpless. And most of her life she is next to her son or daughter. Just like dad.

Children grow up, they are no longer interested in parental guidance. A teenager starts snapping in response to good advice or exhortations. A young man or a young girl themselves knows what to do. And they run away from home without hearing their parents. Seeking to flop out in life, but what about mom and dad? They do not understand anything in the life of modern youth.

Rushing away from the parental home, answering the closest people with rudeness and sometimes rudeness, we forget what they did for us. Mom and dad were around and took care of their child when he was still completely disgusting to strangers. Parents give us everything from life.

Mother and father are able to accept death instead of their child, die for it. And are we able to sacrifice ourselves in order to save the life of our dearest people? However, we can keep the commandment of God and strive to protect our mothers and fathers from the pain caused by us. From humiliation towards them, from showing disrespect to parents.

Honor parents

Sixth commandment

The commandments "do not steal", "do not kill": what are they in a row? “Thou shalt not kill” - this is the sixth commandment.

Who is the Creator of this world? Who breathed life into every person? God. Someone will be surprised and say that we were born from people. Rather, it would be right to say that we were born through humans. The Lord allowed us to appear in this world by sending our parents. Only God can give life. And people, unfortunately, have learned to take it from their sisters and brothers in Christ.

Parents kill their children when they are in the womb. This is disgusting before God. Man has no right to take his life, because he does not give it.

There is such a parable. Once upon a time there were two men in the neighborhood. And one of them was flattered by the wealth of the other. Sneaked into his house at night, cut off the head of a neighbor, and took the money. He leaves the house, and the murdered neighbor goes towards him. And his head is not his own, but a killer. The last one was frightened, rushed out of the yard. He walks down the street and sees his murdered neighbor again.

Having returned home and somehow having survived the rest of the night, the killer decided to get rid of the stolen money, hoping that the murdered neighbor would cease to seem to him. Threw money into the river. But the ghost continued to pursue his killer. He could not stand it, appeared to the authorities and obeyed the sin.

The murderer was convicted, imprisoned. But there was no rest for him, the murdered man continued to pursue him. Then this man began to ask for prayers for him from the old priest, as if he were in prison. He asked for communion with him. The priest said that we must first repent. The killer was surprised, because he repented of his crime. What the old priest objected, pointing out to him that the life of the murdered neighbor and the life of the killer were similar. And having killed him, the surviving neighbor, as if killed himself. What the ghost with his head testifies to.

The killer admitted this, took communion, and began to spend nights in prayer. The ghost from that time ceased to disturb the repentant sinner.

Will God forgive such a sin? This sin cries out for vengeance on heaven. This is a very difficult question. With due and sincere repentance, the Lord sees our hearts.

Don't kill

Seventh commandment

“Do not kill”, “do not steal” - from the 10 commandments of God. And if we remembered the first above, then when do we get to the second? A little more, a little more patience.

In the meantime, let's talk about the commandment "do not commit adultery." What does it mean? Do not commit adultery, that is, do not have a relationship with a woman or man. More precisely, extramarital affairs.

Everything is built on marriage. And what is happening in our society, especially among young people, is nothing but fornication. Erratic sexual intercourse is a direct violation of the 7th commandment. What can such a generation give? Only an even more flawed generation. Good children will not be born from a rotten womb.

It’s like animals. There are different dogs: another will not let a male come in even during the hunt, when it is time to mate. And another pushes the tail in front of the representatives of the male canine sex, even when she does not have estrus. And no matter how strange it may sound, but puppies - females, obtained from such a bitch, behave in the future, like the mother.

The same applies to people. Nobody canceled genetics. And if a girl - the future wife and mother - behaves badly from her youth, how will the daughter from such a mother behave?

Fornication is an abomination to God. He said, "multiply and multiply," but do not "engage in erratic sexual relations for pleasure." The difference is palpable, right?

Do not make amusements

Eighth commandment

"Do not steal" - the 8th commandment, finally we got to it.

A person has a right to property. Let on small and trifle, from the point of view of the neighbor, but it is his thing. And he has the right to possess her. When someone claims the property of another, he offends the owner of the thing, thereby showing him disrespect.

Again, there is a very revealing parable in this regard. A very clear interpretation of the commandment "do not steal."

One person was engaged in trade. And he always hung his customers. Due to this, he got rich. But the merchant’s house was not going smoothly. Children were constantly sick, and had to spend money on expensive doctors. The more this person weighed on customers, the more expensive the treatment of his children became.

Once he was sitting in his shop and thinking about his own children. At this moment, it seemed to man that Heaven had opened. He saw the scales, and next to them - the angels. When they began to measure the health of the merchant’s children, the angels put him on the scales less than there were weights. The man was angry with the angels of God, even wanted to shout at them. But the angels were ahead of the dishonest merchant:

- What are you angry? The measure is correct. You are not enough for your customers, and we are not enough for your children. Thus, the truth of God is accomplished.

Bitterly became a merchant. He sincerely repented of his deception. And since then, when calculating with customers, he put on the scales a little more than expected. Children are on the mend.

Everywhere there should be equality. If we steal something, then something takes God away from us.

The concept of "do not steal" is this: do not take someone else's, even if in the little things. Otherwise, you risk losing much more than you gain.

Don't steal

Ninth

“Do not steal”, “do not deceive”, “do not kill” - these commandments are a very important law on the life path of every person. What is the ninth commandment? Do not bear false witness against your neighbor. That is, do not slander the other person.

When we time for ourselves, we know that. And when we slander another person, he may not know about it. And all the filth of slander, all its filth remains on us. This is the first. Secondly, God is a witness to this slander. And one day the truth will come out, disgracing and exposing the slanderer.

Let us turn to the parable in this regard.

Two neighbors lived in one village: Luka and Ilya. Luke did not love Elijah, for he was a working man. Luke himself is a bummer and a bitter drunkard. And then one day he decided to slander his working neighbor. Luke went to court and brought false information that allegedly Ilya was reproaching the Tsar.

At the trial, Ilya defended himself as best he could. But seeing that all this was useless, he turned to his neighbor and told him that God would reveal his lies against his neighbor.

Ilya was imprisoned. And Luke returned home. And what did he see? His old father fell into a fire and burned his face. In horror, Luke remembered the words of Elijah. He rushed to the judges and admitted his crime. So the slanderer suffered two punishments: from God and from judgment, for Ilya was released, and the lying Luka was imprisoned.

Tenth commandment

We have examined almost all the commandments from the Bible: "Do not steal," "Do not kill," "Honor your parents." What does the latter say? "Do not wish for what your neighbor has."

Desire is the seed of sin. If we carefully read the previous nine commandments and this last one, we will see that they are different. In what? In the fact that in all nine commandments God prevents the sinful acts of man. And here he looks at the root of sin, does not allow a person to sin in thoughts.

From sinful thoughts sinful deeds grow. So, if a person looked lustily at his neighbor’s wife today, then it is quite possible that tomorrow he will begin to think how to attract her attention. The day after tomorrow will do it. Then he will enter into a fornication with her. And then he will break the neighbor’s family.

A heart filled with evil desires is the source of sin. For, as stated above, desire is the seed of sin. It is necessary to refrain from envy, not to allow such thoughts into your mind. It will be keeping the Lord’s last commandment.

Summarize

We made out the commandments "do not steal," "do not make yourself an idol," "do not kill." In general, all the ten commandments given to Moses by God himself. Recall again what they say:

  1. "I am the Lord thy God." Man should not have other Gods, except our Creator.

  2. Do not make yourself an idol. Idol alone, He can do anything. People should not look for an idol among people.

  3. Do not take the name of your Lord in vain.

  4. Work six days, give the seventh to God.

  5. Honor your parents.

  6. Dont kill.

  7. Do not commit adultery. That is, do not enter into the sin of fornication.

  8. Do not steal.

  9. Do not give false testimony against your neighbor.

  10. Do not desire anything that your neighbor has.

What is the commandment "do not steal"? She is one of the most famous even in the modern world. We remind you that she is the eighth in a row.

Conclusion

God's commandments are a law given to people. We are afraid to break human law, fearing punishment and criminal liability. And easily break the law of God, not at all afraid of His punishment. And it is much worse and harder than that received from people.
