Biography

Roger Glover. 1972 year.

Roger David Glover was born November 30, 1945 in Brecon, UK, in a modest family in which, besides him, five years later, Roger's sister, Christine, was born.

According to the memoirs of his contemporaries, Roger did not study at school, but from the age of 13 he completely abandoned his studies, carried away by playing the guitar and rock music. In high school, he gathers his first group - Madisons, and two years later renames it Episode Six, inviting new members, among whom was vocalist Ian Gillan.

The group gives small concerts in the suburbs of Brecon, tries to organize a tour of England, and also makes several test recordings at the studio, which, however, are not widely used.

Deep purple

In 1969, at one of Episode Six's performances, Ian Gillan met John Lord and Ritchie Blackmore, who immediately invited him to their new project - Deep Purple. Ian agrees and also recommends Glover's new friends as a professional bass player. The resulting composition of the group (Gillan, Blackmore, Pace, Lord, Glover) is considered a classic.

Roger Glover with Deep Purple

From 1969 to 1973, Roger Glover took part in the recording of several full-length albums, as well as in a large number of tours. Between 1972 and 1973, Glover’s relationship with other members of the group became tense, thanks in large part to Ritchie Blackmore, whose behavior was becoming increasingly authoritarian. It was because of Richie Blackmore in June 1973 that Roger Glover was fired from the group, but returned during the reunion of the classic squad in 1988.

Solo career

After leaving Deep Purple, Roger Glover devotes some time to restoring his health and normalizing his psychological state, and later decides to switch to the activities of the producer, working on subsequently becoming world stars - groups Whitesnake, Nazareth, Elf and many others.

In 1974 and 1978, he recorded two solo albums - Butterfly Ball and Elements, respectively, and in 1983 his album Mask was released.

The music community quickly realized that Roger Glover was recording albums not only with former Deep Purple members, but also with many other musicians. They started talking about it. Music critics noticed that Roger Glover, whose photo hangs on every self-respecting music fan on the wall, not only did not end his career, but, on the contrary, began to explore new ways of self-expression.

In 1978, Glover unexpectedly became a member of the Rainbow project, whose founder was Ritchie Blackmore. Despite the once disagreement between the musicians, Glover recorded with the group until its breakup in 1984.
