Why do we
whiten our teeth? Each has its own answer. Someone will say that
white teeth are a sign of an intelligent person. Others will answer that it is fashionable. Others rightly point out that yellow plaque on the teeth is the basis for the formation of stones, which, if not removed, can cause tooth loss. Everyone is right in his own way. Indeed, white teeth are a sign of excellent health, good education. In order to achieve the effect of "Hollywood smile", everyone uses his own way to whiten his teeth. Sometimes, instead of benefit and attractive appearance, it causes great harm.
Who should not whiten teeth?
“Whiten your teeth!” - call for advertising banners of many dental offices, forgetting to indicate that there are categories of people to whom this procedure is strictly contraindicated. Teeth should not be whitened, and even treatment should be especially carefully for people:
- Suffering from diabetes, oncological and some other serious chronic diseases.
- Patients with exposed tooth roots, caries, and other diseases. Such people need to cure their teeth before bleaching.
- It is not recommended to carry out the procedure at the time of exacerbation of seasonal diseases.
- If there are fillings in the teeth, especially the anterior ones, then they cannot be clarified: unlike dentin, the material of the fillings cannot be bleached. Teeth may become "spotty."
- If the tooth enamel is grayish, then most likely the whitening procedure will not bring a noticeable effect.
Whiten the teeth at the dentist
Today there are several professional (cabinet) ways to brighten teeth:
- Ultrasound bleaching. Using ultrasound waves generated by a special device, the doctor removes deposits accumulated on the teeth. A “side effect” of such professional hygiene is whitening in several tones.
- AirFlow technology is a professional polishing and whitening process using abrasive powder based on calcium carbonate (soda).
- ZOOM 3 technology, or plasma whitening. It consists in the fact that an oxygen-containing gel is applied to the tooth, which is activated by a special lamp. Oxygen gradually brightens the teeth. This is one of the most expensive, but the most effective and harmless ways.
- Opalescence whitening reminiscent of previous technology. In this case, the result is achieved through the use of a chemical gel that is able to act without activation. This gel can whiten teeth both outside and inside the canals.
Teeth whitening at home
Remember: brushing your teeth with soda, chalk and other folk remedies will not help make your smile dazzling. On the contrary, with the help of “improvised” means you can completely remove the enamel from the teeth, expose their roots, etc.
Therefore, for home whitening, you can apply:
Special whitening pencil for teeth.
Custom-made mouth guards.
- Strips for home whitening.
All these tools act quite slowly, but they do not damage the tooth enamel.
