Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography was established by personal order of Ekaterina ll in 1779. Initially, it was called the Konstantinovsky Surveying School. The university is located in the Basmanny district of Moscow, not far from the Kurskaya metro station.
University Early History
The surveying school, created in 1779, was named in honor of Konstantin Pavlovich - the second grandson of Catherine the Great. In this organizational form, it lasted until May 10, 1835, when, by order of Nicholas, l was turned into the Konstantinovsky boundary institute.
In 1930, the university was divided into two institutes. From the geodesy department, the Moscow Geodetic Institute was created, and the land management department turned into the Moscow Institute of Land Management Engineers.
Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography has become an important center for design thought.
