Low self-esteem, its causes and consequences

Low self-esteem can be situational or stable. The reasons for it can be both real human problems in a particular area, as well as fictional ones. Self-esteem often has roots in the past. Parents, friends, teachers could inspire a person with uncertainty in their abilities. With age, this sensation did not go away, but only more deeply rooted. Low self-esteem is a big hurdle. It prevents a person from developing and self-fulfilling. As a rule, uncertainty repels from him not only success in his personal life and career, but even people who can help. Psychology deals with this kind of problems. Self-esteem does not increase in a couple of sessions with a psychologist, but as a result of focused efforts it can be corrected.

Change self-esteem - means, fundamentally change the attitude towards yourself. Constant complaints and nagging will never help to get rid of problems that have arisen. From people who underestimate themselves, one can hear that they are not loved and used. And this often turns out to be true. However, the reason for this attitude of people is not in the qualities of the person himself and those around him, but in self-esteem. People intuitively grasp uncertainty and do not mind taking advantage of it. If a person does not evaluate himself properly, then no one will do it for him. It is unlikely that anyone will prove to a pretty woman who has low self-esteem that she is beautiful. And, most likely, such arguments will be useless. A man must help himself. Otherwise, the situation can only worsen. Depression, alcoholism, suicide - all these are possible consequences of an underestimation of their qualities. There can be no question of any motivation for a full life.

Low self-esteem can prevent problems. However, you need to pull yourself together and decide on this step. It all starts not with self-praise, but with a little different. It is necessary to try to make small, but noticeable progress in business. It is noted that people who do not like themselves have a number of problems. One of them is the lack of real steps to achieve the goal (if the goal exists at all). Another problem is the presence of character traits for which such people despise themselves and constantly feel guilty. Masochism must be left in the past. The first step to respecting yourself as a person is self-improvement. If you have problems with alcohol, you can try to refrain from it, if there is a fear of performances, then you should try to at least learn how to speak in front of a mirror.

For each forward movement you can reward yourself. Self-confidence develops gradually. You just need to pay attention to your strengths, not weaknesses. And it’s also important to stop punishing yourself. There are some things that cannot be fixed. It remains only to accept them and live with them. However, most often, most problems are solved. A person who has low self-esteem is simply not trying to solve them, to find other methods to achieve the goal. You can completely change your perception in a few years. This will require only focused work and motivation. So that motivation does not fall, we must remember the reasons for the dislike of oneself. After several attempts, any person begins to detect such negative moments in his past. It can be problems in the family in childhood, ridicule at school, and failure to work. Do not let the negative obscure the horizons of life. Any troubles and failures must be treated correctly. Everything in life falls, but those who have the strength to rise win. If you can’t change the situation on your own, then it’s better to consult a psychologist. You should not wait until a deep crisis and depression sets in, when you can’t do without a specialist.
