Since time immemorial, every owner has sought to fence off his land. At least in order to protect him from cattle damage. For this purpose, on the lands of the Slavs, every peasant had to build a simple wooden fence - a fence of woven rods and branches. Such a structure was called tyn on the Don land, on the Ukrainian land - a parkan.
The desire of many inhabitants of small country estates for unjustifiable luxuries in the form of neatly trimmed
green fences looks a little strange
. No doubt, the
hedge of thuja, for example, is well-groomed and beautiful. But in those places where such barriers were characteristic of the landlords and the rich, who, in the end, were carried out on a pitchfork, such luxuries look superfluous. Even in practical terms, there is no point. Because hedges (shrubs or trees - it doesn’t matter) require regular maintenance. That is a pleasure. In addition, fertile land is allocated for them considerable. And this is where every patch of zemlyatse worth its weight in gold is a form of crime!
Parkan is a different matter: it is created almost from improvised materials, and is fully functional. Not only scares away animals, but also dashing people; and if someone climbs through the parkan, you can immediately treat such a guest with a stake pulled out of the parkan.
Hazelnut (the best option), willow, willow, vine will fit the hedge of woven twigs and branches. Parkan - these are stakes pointed from the thick end as the basis and the rods that are braided between them. Each stake is 1.5-2 m long and 3-5 cm in diameter. The diameter of the rod naturally decreases from the butt to the top, and it should be no less than 2 m and no more than 4.5 m. If you are advised to sand the rods from the bark - look at such an adviser with pity. Spectacular and senseless waste of time and effort.
Further, everything is simple. Pole stakes are driven into the ground at a distance of 1 m from each other. Between them, weave the branches, alternating different lengths when laying them, to hide the borders of the joints. The upper row is braided in such a way as to leave free the upper part of the racks by thirty centimeters. What for? Find out now.
In the meantime, a few secrets so that your hedge of woven rods and branches stand for as long as possible.
It is better to hammer the stakes not into damp ground, but into scraps of metal or plastic pipes, driven into the ground in advance or rammed into holes. Their inner diameter, of course, should be equal to the diameter of the lower end of the stake. But - without a gap. Otherwise, moistening with rainwater, rotting of wood - and the collapse of parkan cannot be avoided. In addition, treat with an antiseptic.
The bottom row of rods should be raised above the ground so that there is a small gap sufficient so that rain water does not accumulate under the parkan.
When weaving every 2-3 rows, tap branches on top with a mallet. The parkan should look as dense as possible; moreover, shrinking of branches will inevitably lead to the formation of cracks.
Finally, after all the labors, our fence of woven rods and branches is ready. This is where the upper ends of the racks come in handy - for hanging glaziers on them. Here you can also lean the wheel against the Chumatsky cart, and plant the mallow with sunflowers. It is wonderful if there is a krinichka in the yard, and a stork figurine on the roof, and a bench with a table. And at the table - godfather, and at godmother - a streamer with pepper and bacon.
