After the collective took part in Eurovision, many people on Earth began to ask the question: where did Buran’s grandmothers come from? The answer is simple - from Russia. Our country is so large that on its territory there are a huge number of talented people who can prove themselves regardless of age and social status.
Small village, very popular
The small village of Buranovo became extremely popular after the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012. Up to this point, far from all the inhabitants of Udmurtia knew about the village . Now it is the most favorite place for tourists to visit. In the state of Russia Udmurtia is its subject. Buranovo cannot even be called a village, it is a village with a population of 658 people. The village has existed since 1710.
From the moment the church was built in Buranovo, it has become the most visited: bazaars were organized for residents of other villages. Until today, the church has not survived. Now a new temple is being built, and ordinary grandmothers collect money for its construction. And it is precisely this desire to make available to the villagers a place in which they could become closer to God, forcing the performers to take the stage again and again.
Where are they from, these talented old women
Where "Buranovskie grandmothers" take the money? Who are they? What is their popularity? The Buranovsky Grandmothers collective performs songs not only in the Udmurt language, but also Russian folk songs, as well as hits by famous contemporary artists, shifting them to their native Udmurt language.
The ensemble was created more than forty years ago. You can calculate the average age of grandmothers, it is equal to seventy years. For the first time, the performers performed in 2008 during the celebration of the Mother Tongue Day. The holiday was held at the State Philharmonic of Udmurtia. The old women surprised everyone with their repertoire. They performed songs by Viktor Tsoi and Boris Grebenshchikov. To make the contents of the songs of famous musicians understandable to all listeners, the collective performed works in their native language. This interested all the press and television.
The best of the best
And then a miracle happened: the team representing Russia at the competition had the name "Buranovskie Granny". Eurovision for them began with the qualifying round of the competition in 2010. Grandmothers took an honorable third place, performing a song about birch bark in their own language. In 2012, on another round of selection, grandmothers sang a song that brought them incredible popularity, the right to speak on behalf of all of Russia and in the future, at the competition in Baku, to claim second place.
Young people, famous people and venerable producers gathered at the Eurovision Song Contest, welcomed the grandmothers standing. Everyone was conquered not only by the respectable age of the old women performing on the stage, but also by their amazing sense of music and talent. The recording with the performance of the Buranovskie Grannyi collective was a real hit on the Internet. Sites and news lines literally exploded after the ensemble entered the stage. The comments were the most enthusiastic reviews. They noted the originality and originality of the song and the band itself.
Talent feature
This uniqueness lies in the fact that the grandmothers performed works of their own composition. So, the song about birch bark, which made a splash in the audience, was written by Zarbatova Elizaveta Filippovna, the oldest member of the collective. What is the song about? About the heavy share of a simple Udmurt woman, a rural resident. She thinks about how to dress and feed the children, how to manage to do everything alone, without the help of male strong hands. This song is relevant at the present time. How many single women with the same problems raise children, earn money, make a career. The song was written a long time ago, and the woman’s share did not become any better.
Homeland of Celebrities
The native village, where the Buranovskaya Granny came from, does not have such sights for which it’s worth coming thousands of kilometers away. But here they are greeted with an affectionate word, clean air, beautiful landscapes. And the famous artists will talk to everyone and give their autographs. The nature of Udmurtia is rich in its incredible open spaces and talented people. This is where the Buranovskaya Granny came from. That is where their voiced voices and soulful songs sound.
Collective "Buranovsky grandmothers" composition already changed his. At the moment, from the former, which won a prize for the country, only one participant remained. This is Natalia Pugacheva, People's Artist of the Republic of Udmurtia. The updated composition includes soloists from the Italmas State Ensemble, the Aikai Republican Theater, the head of the Arganchi harmonics team and simple amateur artists.
Honored Award
"Buranovskie grandmothers" year their performance at the Eurovision Song Contest was marked by a remarkable award "People's Artist" by decree of the President of the Udmurt Republic. According to this document, eight members of the ensemble were noted for their great contribution to the development of art and high performing skills.
Brought incredible popularity to the team "Buranovskie grandmothers" Eurovision. Over the years of her work, women have gained skill from concert to concert, becoming more popular. And participation in a competition of this magnitude became simply the regularity of their talented performances. But so far there has not been a single specialist who could determine which genre can be attributed to the performance of their songs by the grandmothers.
The team found fans not only in their native village, the republic and Russia as a whole. All over the world, they are interested in the phenomenon of Udmurt old women. In Japan, they appreciate the appeal to national traditions and art. A small documentary about grandmothers was shot in this country.
For heaven's sake
"Buranovskie grandmothers" songs they are very soulful, glad to help each person with advice and deed, very hospitable. Therefore, their dreams are as bright and pure as they are. Grandmothers always wanted the Holy Trinity Church to be restored in their village. All the money that the team managed to earn at the concerts was given to the fund of the rural shrine. In May 2012, laid the foundation for the temple.
You should not be so naive as to believe that the money that grandmothers managed to earn should have been enough to build a church. But an incredible love for the ensemble melted the ice in the hearts of those people who are far from art. Thus, the head of Udmurtia, Alexander Volkov, allocated funds not only for the restoration of the temple, but also for road repairs and water supply to the village of Buranovo. In addition, two soloists of the ensemble Tuktareva Olga Nikolaevna and Koneva Galina Nikolaevna became participants in the television game "Who wants to become a millionaire?" They won eight hundred thousand rubles and sent all the money to build a church in their native village.
Incredible popularity
Charming grandmothers conquered many. They began to appear in commercials of popular food products and other materials. Famous old women are actively promoting safe traffic. They are freelance employees of the department of the Udmurt traffic police. One of the participants of the "Buranovsky grandmothers" became part of the team of torchbearers of the Sochi Olympic Winter Games.
The team did not always succeed, but the ability to survive, to compromise distinguishes all members of the song collective. On tour, grandmothers always rely only on themselves. They stock up on canned food, take baked bread with them and cook their own meals.
The “House of Lyudmila Zykina” concluded a five-year cooperation contract with the Buranovsky Grandmothers team. In May 2014, it expired. The ensemble refused further work, since its members did not agree with the decision of the producer. It was proposed to update the composition by recruiting young performers. All former members of the ensemble were fired, putting forward a ban on the performance of songs that they sang in a collective called Buranovskie Granny, because even the name of the ensemble, like all phonograms, was limited by the copyright of House Zykina.

No one knew that a simple amateur team would cause such a storm of emotions around the world. And none of the members of the ensemble even thought about the professional scene. They just wanted to get together to sing the way their grandmothers and great-grandmothers sang. Songs helped in the work, temporarily distracted from problems and everyday difficulties in life. For these ordinary women workers, the main concern of the villager remains: to plant and harvest in time, to prepare pet food for the winter. For them, there is no problem choosing between creativity and family. They will always choose the second.
Forces take from nature
The performers at the Eurovision Song Contest were treated with great care and attention. The organizers worried about the health of the grandmothers. The resuscitator was constantly with the team. Doctors conducted a special examination, the result of which was the conclusion that every performer was in good health. The thing is that grandmothers live in harmony with wildlife, eating energy from its sources.
For grandmothers, music is a faithful companion for life
Many of Buranov’s performers are unhappy in their personal lives. Some are completely alone. Music for them is the only opportunity for meetings and communication, it gives them additional energy and a sense of existence. Women try to do everything with their own hands, performing heavy men's work. But none of them shows that it’s hard for them. They go on stage, smiling, giving all listeners and spectators a good mood.
In all of Russia, every resident knows exactly in which republic Buranovskaya Granny appeared. This is the Republic of Udmurtia, it has always been famous for having arms factories. Its territory was glorified by a brilliant designer, the creator of the world-famous machine gun Mikhail Kalashnikov. And now the Buranovskie Grannyi team has added a piece of fame to their native Udmurtia. Not every Russian village can boast that they are not indifferent to talented people.
