Automatic "Uzi" - advantages and disadvantages

The Uzi assault rifle got its name in honor of its creator Uziel Galya. Gal was born in Weimar, Germany in 1923, then moved to Israel in 1936. From the moment Uziel turned fourteen, he worked in the locksmith's workshop "Jagura", where he was engaged in the repair of tractors and agricultural equipment. In addition, he restored trophy weapons for self-defense units, keeping it secret from the British. And already in those days, Uziel Gal began work on a submachine gun in his own design. In 1948, as a cadet in an officer school, Uziel sent an application for the invention of a prototype. Six months later, Gal was sent to the Small Arms Division of the Israel Liberation Army, where he became the chief designer-gunsmith Jaime Kara. Already at the end of 1949, a special commission was created to study the feasibility of implementing the idea of manufacturing an Uzi machine, and Uziel Galy himself was assigned his own workshop and two workers to help.

Ultrasound machine
In the diagnostic tests, the Uzi submachine gun, created by the inventor, competed with Kara's submachine gun. Both of these PPs had a “coasting circuit”, which at that time was new in the creation and design of weapons.

In general, Kara’s submachine gun passed all the main tests normally, but in comparison with the Uzi it showed two serious drawbacks. The first drawback is the high cost of production, which did not contribute to its widespread use, and the second was the low reliability of the mechanism - in the desert and during sandstorms it clogged with fine grains of sand too quickly and, accordingly, it required quite frequent cleaning, which is not always possible when maintaining active hostilities. The Uzi submachine gun did not have such shortcomings.

However, the construction of Uziel Galya, on the contrary, passed all the main and most important tests with excellent marks. PP was quite simple in construction, cheap in its manufacture, and it was also very strong, durable and reliable. Disassemble "Uzi" can literally "on the knee", as it consists of only five main parts. He also had a high level of security, thanks to a double fuse.
