In terms of heat conservation, the ceiling is a very vulnerable spot. As you know from the school curriculum, according to physical laws, heat tends to rise upward, and if the ceiling has insufficient thickness, then it quickly disappears away.
There are several options for how to insulate the ceiling, each of them has its pros and cons. The most recommended ways to insulate the ceiling - from the inside or using the attic. Let us together with you find out the detailed details of these options!
Warming through the attic
This ceiling insulation is the best, and there are several ways, depending on whether the attic is used at all, and if so, how often.
1. If you never walk in the attic, the insulation will be safe - it will not be moved or damaged. It is necessary to lay the insulation in the attic and press it so that the warm air masses that tend to go out of the room do not go out. In such a situation, mineral wool insulation will be the easiest to install insulation. Mineral wool mats are laid out on the surface and covered with roofing material or film. Pressed by any weight - done!
2. In the event that someone walks periodically in the attic, the ceiling insulation will have to be done more thoroughly. You can make a screed (using cement-sand mortar) or a plank coating on top of mineral wool mats laid on the surface. Three to five centimeters of screed is enough.
3. The latter case, you guessed it, if the attic is used often and constantly. Here it is possible to use mineral wool mats already familiar to us (only with increased rigidity), sioporny or polystyrene foam plates, or to make the ceiling warm with foam plastic - a material familiar even to those who have no idea about construction work! As a worthy working option, it is allowed to insulate the ceiling with insulating light filling - expanded clay is usually used. We fill the backfill with a film, then a roofing material, and the final operation is a screed.
Insulation of the ceiling inside the room
It is easiest to insulate the ceiling with a heat-insulating tile (sioporny, foam concrete). The use of polystyrene as a heater inside a residential building is extremely undesirable: it contains substances that, to the human body, will bring nothing more than harm. Particularly active harmful substances are released from the foam in the heat, which is also a manifestation of the laws of physics mentioned in the introduction. After laying the insulation, there are two options: to sew up the insulation with sheets of drywall or simply plaster.
And now we smoothly approached the ideal option for insulating the ceiling from the inside of the room - ready-made insulation panels. The construction market today offers many types of similar products. The most common are three-layer panels, in which mineral wool or polystyrene foam performs the function of the core. On the front side of the panel decorative decoration is performed, and there is a wide choice: insulation panels with decorative or fine plaster, plastic or wood trim. It is worth mentioning that due to the ability to simulate a wide variety of materials, plastic finish is in greatest demand. Simplicity is also attractive - to perform the insulation of the ceiling with such panels, you will need only an ordinary wooden frame.
When we begin to think about the insulation of the ceiling, it immediately seems that this is an incredibly complex and impossible task. But this is not so at all - in fact there is nothing complicated in this, which we now had the opportunity to see!
