Psychoanalysis training is conducted in Russia in many cities as part of a second higher psychological or medical education. As an independent specialty, psychoanalysis is presented only as advanced training for teachers, psychologists or medical professionals. The question of how to protect a diploma arises before students at the end of the learning process.
Choice of subject and supervisor of the diploma
The object of research in psychoanalysis is not a client who undergoes psychoanalysis with a novice specialist. The study may concern only the forms and methods of psychoanalytic practice, the development of new approaches in connection with the characteristics of modern clients. The supervisor helps both protect the diploma and prepare it by monitoring and accompanying the work of the ward at all stages of practical work. Most often, the head is a practicing psychoanalyst who is well versed in the theory that the student takes as a basis in his graduation work, and in practice. The practical work of the graduate student is held with regular consultations, supervision, which can be individual and group. In classes on the methodology of scientific design, students can get information on how to defend a diploma not only on the application of psychoanalytic methods in working with clients, but also on applied psychoanalysis, on the history of psychoanalysis in different countries.
Graduation
The structure of the diploma should consist of two chapters, introduction, conclusion and applications. The introduction, as well as the speech on the diploma, should reflect the relevance of the topic, its problematic nature in modern science and practice and the hypothesis of how the student expects to find a way out of the current problem situation. The hypothesis should be directly related to the tasks of work, because any assumption requires verification. In conclusion, the researcher notes how justified his assumption in the process of studying and testing the proposed working methods. Any scientific work should be new. It is unclear how to defend a diploma without introducing anything new into the structure of its activity or into historical research. The defense of the thesis is the defense of novelty: a new method, a new look at the problem, a new approach to the use of psychoanalysis in any field of activity.
The first chapter of the thesis should be devoted to the theory of psychoanalysis, in the framework of which research is conducted and a new element is introduced. The theoretical substantiation of the innovation is given, the possibility of its use in their work on the basis of previous studies of the classics of psychoanalysis is confirmed.
The second chapter describes the practical work with an emphasis on the theory presented. The part of the study where the new method or approach was applied is selected and analyzed. Given the confidentiality of psychoanalytic work with clients, in the thesis the fictitious name of the client or only his initials is mentioned. Ethical standards also require the permission of the client to describe this work in his diploma. If the work is historical in nature, the second chapter may present a phased development of the method with an analysis of the reasons for its appearance, as well as prospects for its development in the future.
The delivery of a diploma involves a number of measures: passing pre-defense, obtaining a review of a third-party specialist, and recalling a manager. The defense presents a speech that summarizes the essence of the work, its relevance, novelty and the result of the practical activities of a novice specialist. An expert commission of teachers and practicing psychoanalysts comprehensively evaluates the student's work.
