The Latvian brand Dzintars ("Amber") dates back to 1849, when Henryk Adolf Briger founded his own perfumery and soap factory.
The very first fragrance was created in 1958. Then the company's products were in high demand, which required several times increase production. The modernization process took place in the 60s, when the construction of a new factory began. After 9 years, the building was commissioned and new equipment was brought in from Switzerland, Germany and France. Thus, the production and packaging technology has not only accelerated, but also qualitatively changed.
Today, the company is developing plant extracts, fragrances, cosmetics and perfumes. Dzintars works with such well-known perfumers as Liliya Osipova, Bronislava Schwarzman, Aina Pashko and Meelda Gulbe. To date, more than two hundred fragrances have been created. We will tell you more about the most popular perfumes.
Ridzinieces noslepums
During the USSR, the Latvian brand produced many interesting compositions. But a special place in the hearts of Soviet customers was occupied by the spirits of “The Secret of Riga” from “Dzintars”. Reviews called them legendary classics, and critics prophesied incredible success. And so it happened. Perfume is one of the few that has not been discontinued, and for 25 years now it has been pleasing several generations with its captivating sound. In addition, while still at the final stage of development, that is, without a name, the essence took first place at an international competition in the capital of France.
Ridzinieces Noslepums is a passionate aroma with hints of bitterness, where a captivating trio of roses, violets and jasmine, fragrant against a background of cool lily of the valley, iris and sensual magnolia.
“The Secret of Riga” is still beautiful, a little old-fashioned, but eternal, like a song about a woman sung by the most elegant and loving man in the world.
Kristine
The 80s have become very fruitful for the brand. After Ridzinieces noslepums, the perfumery market got acquainted with yet another masterpiece of the Latvian brand. Reviews of the Christine perfume by Dzintars recall her exquisite sound with velvety shades with special warmth. Many women admitted that they bought this perfume for their daughters, since the smell of Kristine very subtly emphasized the charm of youth, charged with energy and positive.
Despite its popularity in the late 90s, the production of aromatic essences ceased. As for contemporary compositions with the same name, issued under numbers 1,2,3 and 4, they have nothing to do with vintage perfumes of 1980.

Are you a yoke?
Reviews of perfumes from "Dzintars" Kokete from all the aromas allocated only one, calling it the best manifestation of this characteristic attraction. Get to know him a little closer.
Refined chypre perfumes have always talked about the excellent manners and delicate taste of their owner. A sweet combination of sweet peas with a languid rose gives positive emotions from the very first notes of the composition. Then the bouquet is enriched with accents of figs, white jasmine with black currant. Approaching the final chords, "Coquette No. 1" is fragrant with wood against a background of bergamot and exhilarating musk.
Reveranss
Composition "Reverence", released in 1992, belongs to the group of floral aromas. Those who were lucky enough to become the owner of the original bottle in their reviews of the perfume "Reverance" from "Dzintars" admired their gentle and sensitive sound. The following ingredients served as the basis for achieving such a warm, sometimes enveloping odor:
- Top notes are ylang-ylang, tuberose, neroli and bergamot.
- Heart: rose, jasmine, lily of the valley and tonka bean.
- Base: vanilla, ambergris, musk and leather.
In the late 90s, perfume was discontinued. Later, the composition of Reveranss was changed, and in 2011 completely new perfumes from Dzintars appeared on store shelves under the old name. Reviews of the updated fragrance called it intriguing and romantic - the smell of a mystery woman. Olfactory pyramid is represented by the ingredients:
- Top notes: lemon, lily of the valley and nectarine.
- Heart: rose, clove and tuberose.
- Base: white musk, cedar and ambergris.
Dzintars Intriga No. 1
There must always be intrigue in human life, because it gives us the desire and strength to strive to conquer the peaks and discover the unknown. Reviews of perfumes "Intrigue" from "Dzintars" call them atmospheric aroma, whose floral-oriental fragrance reveals on the skin with all its versatility.
Acquaintance with the composition begins with an exquisite violet, complemented by the luxury of a rose, the coolness of a lily of the valley and the enchanting accents of ylang-ylang. The sound of the heart consists in the astringency of cloves, which smoothly and gently turns into chords of vetiver and jasmine, slightly sweet, but deep forest notes, reinforced with patchouli. The magnificent olfactory pyramid is completed with benzoin giving vanilla shades to Intrigue. Further, the sound of labdanum, warm ambergris and exotic sandalwood is heard.
Miss
The largest number of reviews about the perfume "Miss" from "Dzintars" was left about the bottle under number 1. Customers called it the true embodiment of summer. Indeed, in the smell of the composition, the brightest accents of this season are guessed. In the initial notes, the sweetness of the flowers of apricot and apple tree, the stupefying aroma of lilies of the valley and the honey fragrance of jasmine with the tenderness of pink petals sounds. Slightly harsh, but invigorating shades of citruses and juicy tangerines harmoniously interweave in the “heart”. As a result, everything smoothly flows into the base, where the favorite ingredients of the Latvian brand and many famous perfumers reign supreme: sandalwood, musk and white ambergris.
Ridziniece
"Riga" appeared in the late 60s - early 70s and was a concentrated perfume for special occasions. The fragrance belonged to a group of floral perfumes of a fantasy direction. The original vintage composition was enclosed in a bottle of cylindrical shape in a classical style and consisted of the following notes:
- Initial chords: aldehydes, lilac, lily of the valley and mandarin.
- Heart: hyacinth, cloves, gardenia and jasmine.
- Base: heliotrope, civet and musk.
In their reviews of the perfume “Riga woman” from “Dzintars”, the customers were upset that it was becoming more and more difficult to find this fragrance every year. In late 1980, it was discontinued, and today Ridziniece is found only in private collections.
It is worth noting that the Ridzinieks cologne was no less popular, which became a worthy partner of a women's perfume. The main components of the olfactory pyramid were bitter notes of green with shades of expensive tobacco. The initial chords of Riga were revealed with bergamot, petitgrain, orange and fleur de orange. In the "heart", the fragrance of lavender and cloves was intertwined with vetiver, sandalwood and patchouli. The base was accented with oak moss, musk and ambergris. “Riga” turned out to be a very calm and dense aroma. Although many reviews of Dzintars spirits emphasized a manly sound, the Ridzinieks are still very far from brutality. Rather, it would be ideal for women who prefer warm oriental perfumes with hints of spice. However, the language does not turn to refer "Riga resident" to the group of compositions "unisex".
The production of vintage cologne was stopped in the 90s.
Wiped the nose of the French
In her review of Dzintars Opera perfumes, perfumer Natalya Stasyukevich noted that the composition is a complex combination of upper, middle and basic notes that can be heard even the next morning. The nose begins to recognize the fragrance of lemon tree flowers and green buds of water lilies. A little later, the accents of jasmine, freesia and royal lily are revealed. The last component plays the main violin in the fragrance. And finally, in the database you can hear musk, sandalwood and Peruvian balm, which gives the train vanilla freshness, nuances of cloves and honey warmth.
Of course, ordinary people do not care what to sniff. But it is they who more often acquire what they see "around and everywhere." It is clear that we are talking about world-famous brands investing crazy money in the promotion of their new products. Fans of Dzintars were surprised and at the same time rejoiced when they found out that their favorite brand rushed to the forefront, wanting to push back popular foreign manufacturers. Although you must admit, the task is not an easy one. In addition, it is no secret to anyone - people of the USSR used to the fact that the Riga factory works only for middle-class buyers. And here is such a loud statement: Dzintars goes to the premium level! On the other hand, why not? Why are they worse?

In many reviews of Dzintars Opera perfumes, buyers compared them to YSL's Opium Perfume. Perhaps the similarity is that now the brand uses natural essential oils that French perfumers work with. In any case, according to Natalia Stasyukevich, Opium is not a competitor to Opera. We only note one thing: when the new product from YSL appeared, in some places visitors were forbidden to wear them. Therefore, during the development of the essence of Opera, not only the positive, but also the negative aspects of the French colleague were taken into account. Thanks to this approach, the novelty was liked by customers. The smell turned out festive, but at the same time strict and unobtrusive.
Solo
The female composition "Solo", recommended for special occasions, was supposedly created in the late 80s. The exquisite fragrance of the original perfume was based on the base of aldehydes, lily of the valley and jasmine. The aroma was produced in two bottles: with a ceramic insert with a metering spray (30 ml) and a polished vessel with a screw cap (3.8 ml). After 10 years, the company stopped the production of Solo.
In 2000, a surprise awaited fans: the Latvian brand changed the composition of the original essence and again the perfume “Solo” from “Dzintars” appeared on store shelves. In the reviews of the novelty, it was noted that the modern interpretation had nothing to do with the original and was characterized by a completely different smell. So it is - a bright, stylish and energetic perfume was based on the following notes:
- Top chords: freesia white, damask rose and peach.
- Heart: sandalwood, ylang-ylang, clove.
- Base: cedar, vetiver, musk, patchouli.
The updated version of Solo attracted customers with a harmonious combination of astringency and sweetness. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a composition of the year 2000. In numerous reviews of Dzintars Solo perfumes, buyers are asking the Latvian brand to resume the first fragrance, claiming that later perfumes of the same name have nothing to do with Solo from the USSR. Do you think the company simply ignores requests or are there other reasons?
Why is the production of fragrances from the 80-90s not renewed?
As it turned out, representatives of Dzintars repeatedly received letters asking them to return compositions that were popular in the USSR. In this regard, in order to clarify the situation and not return to this issue, a note appeared on the official website of the company, which indicated 3 reasons preventing the resumption of perfumes from the 80-90s.
1. Reviews of the Dzintars perfume claim that the brand’s products are capable of resurrecting memories and will remain in the memory for a long time. The company is very pleased to read such comments, but life does not stand still, everything changes, including the fashion for smells. Today, the perfume market is undergoing a process of radical rejuvenation, trying to be relevant and in demand by the new generation.
2. Dzintars has a special department for analyzing consumer requirements, which comprehensively approaches the release of new flavors to meet changing customer needs. Unfortunately, if the composition has no demand, it will be discontinued.
3. The requirements for the use of raw materials for creating essences have changed. The lion's share of the components that were part of the beloved Soviet spirits can no longer be found. There are also rules according to which perfume brands must ensure the safety of use. Compliance with European and national standards is important. Unfortunately, many essential oils were recognized as allergenic, so their presence in perfumes is limited or completely prohibited.
