Post-hardcore bands of our time use their songs as a tool to convey their worldview to the masses.

Origin

The first post-hardcore bands appeared in the United States in the eighties. The pioneers of this genre are Fugazi and Javbox, who were the first to push back the installations of the "classic" hardcore. To heavy music and high vocals, modern electronic motifs have been added. Also, screaming was used for the first time along with clean vocals. The musicians masterfully combined the styles of different punk scenes. At the same time, the theme of the songs was quite serious.

Sound

Dynamic sound has replaced simple screaming and heavy chords. Music acquired rhythm, while not losing its frantic energy, so characteristic of hardcore.

After the success of the famous “Nirvana”, more and more post-hardcore bands began to record their records. “Big Black” and “Shellac” have introduced new trends in noise rock. The loud vocals turning into scream alternated with quiet screaming, which created a truly wild atmosphere at the concerts. Fans of post-hardcore most often belonged to existing subcultural groups. Therefore, the external attributes of the groups were also filled with non-conformist motives.

Doug Nesti and Embrace distribute unspoken rules to all post-hardcore performers. Considering themselves to be indie musicians, they categorically deny all major labels. Concerts are most often held in abandoned warehouses or at various festivals. The price is extremely low. In the early nineties, such gatherings became a real problem for the US authorities. Drunk youth, excited by dynamic music, often got involved in various troubles. Therefore, gradually festivals of post-hardcore groups began to be taken under the scrutiny of law enforcement agencies.

With the spread of post-hardcore in Europe, there were some features of the show. The Swiss group "Refaced" actively used stage diving (jumping from the stage into the crowd) at their concerts.

From a classic hardcore, a moshpit was also borrowed. However, over time, the genre began to increasingly go beyond marginal subcultures. The most popular post-hardcore bands began to sign contracts with major labels . The list of such artists began to be called the "mainstream post-hardcore". These are groups like “Askin of Alexandria”, “Attacks of Attacks!”, “Bleszyfol” and others. Big concerts and videos on television brought new fans to the post-hardcore scene, but pushed away a lot of old ones. Russian post-hardcore bands keep up with their Western counterparts and are often invited to international festivals. Groups like Folow Ocean, Cold Streets, and Secret Eyveik have thousands of fans in the post-Soviet space.
