Overclocking computer

Very often, users want their computers to run faster, but they do not want to update the configuration components, resorting to other methods of accelerating activities. There is such a thing as overclocking a computer, which is understood to mean an increase in the frequency of operation of its components, which significantly increases the speed of their work, and, consequently, the overall performance of the computer as a whole. It is worthwhile to understand this concept in more detail.

Overclocking a computer is possible due to the fact that manufacturers have laid a certain margin of safety in manufactured products. At the same time, within a single batch, machines may differ in characteristics. Here you will notice that some processors are faster, while others are slower. At the same time, it makes no sense for the manufacturer to deal with the entire batch of devices, by sorting each one with subsequent testing, therefore, for the entire batch, the minimum optimal value is usually indicated, to which 95% of all products are guaranteed to fall. And the rest, in case of problems, will be replaced under warranty. All this was said in order to smoothly bring you to the fact that overclocking a computer comes down to the procedure for releasing hidden reserves of devices that are included in the computer. However, it should be understood that such reserves may not be, which leads to disastrous consequences.

Overclocking a computer can usually be done in one of three ways. You can briefly describe each of them.

Overclocking the processor via BIOS is done by selecting a special profile in the BIOS settings, which, when the settings are automatically set, allows the processor and the whole machine to be accelerated by 5, 10, 15% or more.

Another way is to overclock using special utilities, which are special programs. Usually they are attached with the drivers to the motherboard.

And the most difficult can be considered manual overclocking, that is, such a method in which the user himself changes the necessary BIOS settings.

As a classic method of overclocking, it is considered to be an increase in the frequency of the processor by increasing the multiplier of its frequency. The processor does not have a built-in clock generator, so it operates at the frequency indicated by the motherboard. The processor frequency in this case is calculated by multiplying the clock frequency of the system bus by the processor factor. It is about increasing this factor that is at stake. In BIOS settings, there is a special function for this, which can be called differently depending on its version. In some versions, this is not allowed at all for security reasons. It is with this that the emergence of another method, which consists in increasing the frequency of the system bus. This, on the one hand, will make it possible to overclock not only the processor, but also the computer as a whole, however, devices that are connected to the system bus may start to work with errors. This is due to the fact that the operating frequencies of the devices are tied to the frequency of the system bus, which leads to an increase in the frequency of their operation with an increase in the frequency of the system bus. However, not every device can withstand this. If malfunctions occur, you can either return the system bus frequency back or change the ratio of the device frequency to its frequency so that the frequency of the device does not change.

To ensure the stability of the operation of individual devices during acceleration, the voltage that is supplied to the devices increases. This causes a strong heating, which requires more intensive cooling. Otherwise, the device may quickly fail, or the computer simply refuses to turn on.

If you are concerned about the issue of how to overclock the Intel processor, then the following can be said. There are no fundamental differences from the described methods, so it remains only to try everything in practice.
