The word "stenichnost" comes from the Greek "stenos", which means "strength". Stenicity is a psychological characteristic that a person is given if he is capable of long-term hard work, and if he is not distracted by extraneous noise and other disturbances, or even sleep loss.
Stenic and asthenic personality types
In psychology, stenic and asthenic types of personality are distinguished. The first of them has such qualities as mood stability, determination, confidence, activity, vitality, and resistance to stress. The asthenic type of personality (the Greek word "strength" by means of the prefix turns into "impotence", "weakness") is characterized, on the contrary, by increased fatigue, sensitivity, possibly resentment resulting from mood changes, as well as insomnia or other sleep disorders. Nevertheless, for the asthenic type of personality, a stenic scenario of behavior is not excluded. In this case, they say that the person experiences stenic emotions.
Stenic and asthenic emotions
Therefore, stenicity is also an emotional characteristic. Like personality types, psychology distinguishes between stenic and asthenic emotions. Emotions called stenic - these are emotions that contribute to the appearance in a person of characteristics characteristic of a stenic type of personality. What emotions can arouse working capacity, make you feel vigor, strength, a surge of energy? These are powerful positive and even negative emotions: joy, love, as well as hatred, envy, etc.
Accordingly, emotions, which are called asthenic in psychology, lead to the fact that a person feels tired, depressed, incapable of performing the usual work.
Stenichnost in psychology - this is interesting because the same emotions can take on a different character depending on the nature and temperament of a person. For example, grief can lead one person to violent activity, while another can be drawn into a state of apathy and indifference.
