Do you know how marine painters work and what kind of paintings they paint? Our article will tell about this, and also about one of the most famous talented painters who chose this genre as their main one - Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky - and other masters of the sea landscape.
Sea Sea
There is such a direction in landscape painting - marine painting, in which exceptionally beautiful sea views act as nature. The sea in such paintings can be seen in any form: quiet and affectionate, or, conversely, formidable and stormy. Marine painters are those people who have devoted themselves, in whole or in part, to drawing such seascapes (marinas).
They can be understood. Is there anything more beautiful than the seas and oceans with their breathtaking breadth, immensity and heavenly blue, shimmering in the rays of the sun in thousands of the most delicate shades? And this beauty is the color of the waves! Such landscapes at all times were very popular among art lovers.
The origin of the words "marine painter" and "marine painter"
In French there is the word marine, in Italian - marina, and both of them come from the Latin marinus, which means โmarineโ or โmarineโ. The words "marine painter" (denoting the genre of painting, which is described in our article) and "marine painters" are cognate with all the foreign expressions listed, all of them are united by one and the same thing.
The most famous marine painters
One of the most remarkable representatives of Russian and world marine science is, of course, I.K. Aivazovsky. About his work in our article will be discussed in more detail. But it would be unfair to say nothing about some other masters of this genre.
Here are their names: Russian painters Beggrov A.K. and Bogolyubov A.P., a talented artist who worked under the Soviet Union - Zebek V.E., Dane Sorensen K.F., Englishman William Turner. Many professional art historians and ordinary art lovers agree that no other marine painter could achieve such a high level of skill as he. This man lived and worked in the 19th century. Future talent was born in an Armenian family in 1817. The boy showed extraordinary drawing abilities very early. To the honor of the parents, they strongly encouraged the child's inclinations and tried to develop them, inviting sensible teachers to the house.
When Ivan grew up, he was accepted as a student at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, where he studied in a landscape class. The first work, which was presented to the audience by the artist Aivazovsky, was called "Study of air over the sea." Already in this work, critics understood that a bright future awaits the young painter. He is sent to the Crimea with the task of writing a number of local landscapes. In the future, Ivan Konstantinovich goes to Italy, where he carefully studies classical painting.
Upon returning to his homeland, Aivazovsky became an academician and sent to the Main Naval Headquarters. There he is to paint the Baltic views. The young artist had a chance to take part in some military operations, his naval battle scenes, one might say, were written from nature. The Russian artist-marinist has written a great many paintings during his life; they can be seen in the Tretyakov Gallery, in the Hermitage, in the Russian Museum.
