A low-speed vehicle is a technical vehicle used for movement, the speed of which on the passport does not exceed thirty kilometers per hour. However, additional restrictions and modifiers are not taken into account. The vehicle will be slow-moving, which for some reason cannot develop a speed limit of more than thirty kilometers per hour.
How are such agents indicated?
Special signs are used to indicate slowly moving vehicles. The other road users are guided by them when overtaking. Slow-moving vehicle is indicated by a special sticker or sign.
This is an equilateral red triangle having the same color reflective border. In some cases, it may be yellow. Inside the triangle is covered with fluorescent spraying. The sign is mounted on the back of the slow boat. If there is no triangle, then a special sticker must be attached to the body of this vehicle.
Is it possible to overtake a slow-moving vehicle that does not have a special sign?
Such a vehicle can be overtaken, even if there are no corresponding designations. But at the same time, the driver must be sure that the speed of the vehicle in front of him cannot exceed thirty kilometers per hour. Even if a sign or sticker is missing, there will be no penalty or overtaking for overtaking.
But there are other situations. For example, when a driver overtakes a vehicle under the sign “No overtaking is allowed,” but a vehicle ahead can reach more than thirty kilometers per hour in terms of its technical characteristics, and for some reason it moves at a lower speed. In this case, you can lose your rights for overtaking.
When are you allowed to overtake?
You can overtake a slow-moving vehicle under a prohibition sign, if this:
- motorcycle without a stroller;
- bicycle;
- horse-drawn cart ;
- moped;
- low-speed transport (tractor, skating rink for asphalt, etc.).
All other vehicles cannot be overtaken. But this rule applies if there are no other relevant prohibitions on advancing.
Overtaking through continuous marking
Overtaking a slow-moving vehicle through continuous marking was allowed not so long ago. Back in 2010 and 2012 regulatory amendments appeared in the SDA. Slow-moving vehicles can be overtaken through continuous marking. But only under the prohibition sign. This was done in order to unload small roads, on which special equipment (road rollers, tractors and other low-speed vehicles often found on Russian roads) often move very slowly.
Prohibition signs are usually installed in emergency places where the overtake may not notice that the driver behind decided to overtake him. As a result, the first car can accelerate, as a result - an accident occurs. In addition, slow rural vehicles create serious traffic jams on rural and suburban routes. And drivers lose a lot of time, "dragging" for a low-speed boat. Therefore, the SDA was amended.
Rules for overtaking low-speed vehicles
But they refer only to the sign "Overtaking is prohibited" (3.20). In its absence, the old rules apply:
- A sign prohibiting overtaking is installed on the road. But at the same time, the markup is intermittent or not at all. In this case, overtaking a slow-moving vehicle is allowed.
- A solid marking line (1.1 or 1.11) is installed on the road, but a prohibition sign is not installed. Therefore, it is impossible to overtake in any case.
- According to points one and two, the situation looks rather contradictory if the prohibition sign and continuous marking are simultaneously installed on the road. Until 2010, overtaking was impossible. But after amendments to the SDA in this situation, low-speed vehicles can be left behind.
Slow vehicles are required to drive off to the right or stop to miss a number of cars gathered behind. This is also a recent amendment to the rules of the road.
You can not overtake a slow-moving vehicle if there is another car to it that does not dare or does not want to be ahead of the slow-moving vehicle ahead of itself.
What is the penalty for unlawful overtaking?
Often on the roads there are situations when the vehicle, according to the technical characteristics, moves very slowly. Moreover, sometimes on the vehicle there are no signs indicating a slow-moving car. In this case, it is possible to overtake the vehicle slowly ahead of the vehicle only if the driver is sure that the special equipment cannot go at a speed exceeding thirty kilometers per hour. For example, if a tractor, an asphalt roller, etc. is moving in front of the driver.
In any other case, this is quite risky. The driver may even lose his license. And the probability is so high. Because even if the upper limit is exceeded, even a kilometer will be punished. In the best case, the driver may be fined five thousand rubles. In the worst case, a deprivation of rights to drive a vehicle for a period of four to six months will follow.
Examples
An asphalt skating rink travels at a speed of five kilometers per hour. This slow-moving vehicle cannot move faster. The vehicle is in the range of the sign prohibiting overtaking. There is no triangle or sticker on the rink itself. The driver, having overtaken such a vehicle, will not be punished. The skating rink is really a low-speed vehicle.
The second case: a tractor with a trailer slowly moves along the road. Its speed is no more than twenty-five kilometers per hour. The vehicle is in the zone of the above sign. There is no sticker or triangle on the tractor designating the vehicle as a low-speed vehicle.
This vehicle overtakes a rushing driver driving behind. In this case, he may be fined or deprived of his rights. The reason is the technical characteristics of the tractor, which can reach speeds of up to 50 km / h. Therefore, on the vehicle and there are no identification marks of a slow-moving vehicle.
