The gospel is the good news. What was this message and why did people react so sharply to it?
The most important idea that believers should understand from the Gospel: God is always with Christians, he helps, supports. He loves people so much that he incarnated, accepted death on the cross for their sake. Then, of course, He rose again, because it is God. This is the essence of Christian teaching, the essence of the gospel.
And if earlier whole volumes of inspired books were dedicated to the rites of the Jews, then Jesus died, leaving almost no tradition behind him. The apostles, however, once noticed this omission and asked Him to teach the disciples how to pray. Jesus answered with a very short prayer, which is now known to all Christians in the world - “Our Father”.
This prayer, like many others, is translated into national languages, there is a prayer "Our Father" in Russian too.
It begins, like the Church Slavonic version, with conversion. “Our Father” in Church Slavonic and “Our Father” in Russian. The conversion is understandable in any case: God is addressed as the Father. But the sacred language of prayer is different from ordinary everyday language. It is unlikely that someone will approach his dad with the word "Father". Such an appeal is a sign of the deepest respect, reverence and even worship. “Ise Yes” is a grammatical form, nothing more. Yesi is the verb of being and existence.
Do the words “heaven” and “heaven” differ in their inner sensation?
Somewhat different. Heaven is something astronomical, and heaven is a spiritual concept, therefore the prayer “Our Father” in Russian does not distort, but impoverishes the meaning.
Next is: "Hallowed be Thy Name." In most translations, this part is unchanged, but sometimes it is reproduced as "may Your Name be sacred."
“Holy” is a verb in a reflexive form, which means that the action is performed by the object itself. That is, the Name of God itself is “holy”, regardless of whether it is sacred to someone or not. The prayer “Our Father” in Russian replaces the meaning.
The next few lines in the texts are no different. The biggest difference is in the phrase about "daily bread."
The most important sacrament for the Orthodox is the Eucharist. At this moment, bread and wine turn into the Body and Blood of Christ. This is what is said in prayer. Daily bread is not a loaf or loaf at all, it is just a sacrament. But the prayer “Our Father” in Russian says “give us for every day,” that is, translates this phrase into an ordinary, everyday one. This is not a conversation about the great sacrament with God, but rather the planning of purchases.
The words of the prayer “Our Father” are sung at every Liturgy, they are sung before a meal and repeated at each prayer. The meaning of prayer must be understood, of course, but nevertheless it is better to read it in Church Slavonic.
Neophytes, who are crossing the church threshold for the first time, want to understand everything in church life. Of course, they need a translation of the prayer “Our Father”, an explanation of the meaning. Many grumble at the complex and incomprehensible language of church prayer. In fact, the prayer “Our Father”, the translation of which is easy to get, is clear and without special explanations, and in general the Church Slavonic language is very similar to Russian. If you learn just a hundred words, the whole service will become clear and simple.
