What are passive speakers?

What do concerts, clubs, performances by artists or politicians, and mass events have in common? This is their purpose. They should convey to the listener music, words, an idea or a song. The main thing is to turn up the volume so that everyone can hear! The decisive role in achieving the expected effect in such events is played by audio equipment, that is, passive speaker systems.

Passive speakers
A passive speaker system is a collection of speakers and speakers of various types that convey a powerful sound to the listener. Since this industry is developed quite well, there are a large number of diverse options for speaker systems. All passive speakers can be classified into broadband and multiband. What is their difference?

Passive speakers
Broadband passive speakers have one sound emitter, that is, a speaker that is designed to reproduce sound with a wide frequency range. These speakers are universal and suitable for those who often organize mini-parties or picnics in their country house. A huge advantage of such systems is their low price compared to multiband systems.

Multiband passive speakers necessarily combine in their design two or more sound emitters (speakers) that reproduce each of its own range of sound frequencies. For example, a system with three speakers works as follows: high frequencies are reproduced by a tweeter or tweeter, medium frequencies are reproduced by mid-frequency, and low ones are reproduced by low-frequency. This solution allowed to significantly increase the quality of reproduced sound and increase the output power.

Passive speaker system
The main feature that distinguishes passive speakers from active speakers is the lack of a built-in amplifier. This is both a positive and a negative trait. The inconvenience of such systems is explained by the need to use additional external amplifiers, without which the work of passive speakers is impossible. The benefit of such speakers is that there is no need to connect additional power sources. This is the reason for their use in large areas or open space. Itโ€™s good when you donโ€™t need to stretch a whole wiring harness, and sometimes it is impossible to do this.

We figured out the speakers. Now let's talk about the acoustic design of the system. It can be expressed by an acoustic bass reflex or duct. In the manufacture of boxes used plastic or wood. It should be noted that speakers that have a wooden box reproduce sound much better. True, the price of such systems is slightly higher than the "plastic" ones.

An important factor that can affect the price of a product is sensitivity. This is an indicator that describes how much effort is required to โ€œswingโ€ the columns. The higher the sensitivity, the lower the power amplifier they need.
