Igor Sandler: biography
The future musician was born on February 7, 1956 in the Russian city of Saratov. Igor from an early age began to be interested in music. Parents were happy about this and strongly supported their son in his endeavor. Thus, Sandler received a musical education from the age of six. He spent a year in the preparatory class, then for seven years he studied at a music school. After graduating from it, Igor Sandler entered the Saratov School of Music. Having received secondary education, the musician studied for five years at the conducting department at the Saratov Conservatory. Igor was fond of classical music. However, he often listened to foreign bands like The Beatles, The Animals, The Doors, etc.
Group Membership
When Igor Sandler graduated from the conservatory, for a year he worked in a jazz-rock band called "Seliger". In 1978, Saratov was visited by the Integral group. The band needed one more musician, and Boris Alibasov (producer) noticed Igor Sandler, who had great expectations. As a result, Igor joined the Integral group as a keyboard player. Later, the team gained immense popularity in the vastness of the entire Soviet Union. Moreover, the group became a laureate of the renowned music festival of rock music "Tbilisi-80".
Own group
In 1982, Igor left the team after four years of work. The musician wants to start a solo career in order to get complete creative freedom. On the basis of the Lipetsk Philharmonic, Igor Borisovich Sandler organized his own musical group, which was named "Index-398" (postal code of Lipetsk). Throughout 1983-1984, Sandler worked to create a unique program that consisted entirely of rock versions of classical music. The main goal is to introduce modern youth to the classics and show the connection between musical images of different eras and modern times. At the same time, Igor takes part in filming. Sandler appeared in such films as “The Recipe for Her Youth,” “The Star and Death of Joaquin Murieta,” etc.
Musical activity
Since 1985, Igor’s group begins active touring. The team was very popular. Musical compositions were perfectly combined with a delightful visual range ("Index" was one of the most technically equipped groups). As a result, each performance of this group is a huge and unforgettable show. In addition, the composition of the "Index" is constantly replenished with talented musicians. Thus, for two years, the famous singer and laureate of international music competitions Albert Asadullin sang in the group .
Together with Assadullin, Igor Sandler developed a new concert program called "Peace to the Earth", which was dedicated to the fortieth anniversary of the Victory. The program included works by such great poets as A. Voznesensky, R. Gazmatov, G. Tukai, E. Evtushenko. The last joint concert with Assadulin took place in the Central House of the Soviet Army in 1986.
In 1988, the composition of the group was replenished again by a talented musician. Grigory Leps joined the team as a vocalist , who over the years will become a famous solo artist. In 1989 (September 8 and 9), the team took part in a charity festival called "Ecology, Mercy, Beauty", which was held in Moscow. In 1989, Igor Sandler began working with the English director and producer Barry White. Together they worked on adapting the musical The Guy Who Dared to Rock for a Russian audience. The performance was dedicated to the memory of rock and roll king Elvis Presley. The full-fledged premiere of the musical took place in December of the same year. Nevertheless, this event was overshadowed by a terrible tragedy. On a technical basis, a fire occurred, which killed Mikhail Zhbrykunov (sound engineer) and Igor Bondarev (technician). In addition, all concert equipment burned to the ground.

Nevertheless, the streak of failures for Igor did not end there. Due to the sudden death of Barry White, the Index group's return visit to the UK never took place. Soon Igor Sandler dismissed the team and left for England himself. There, he cooperates with the musicians of the deceased producer and creates a group called Red Rock. For two years, Sandler has been touring with his new band in small concert halls and pubs in England.
In the 90s, Igor gradually began to do business in Russia, and his business was booming. Sandler holds valuable patents and several factories. Nevertheless, as Igor admitted, he did not get any pleasure from the business. After all, his heart belongs to music.
