In 1998, Fiat launched a new model - Fiat Multipla, which was filed as a fundamentally new class of cars. Is this fair? What features allowed developers to make such a bold statement?
Exterior design
The first thing that immediately catches your eye is a design that gives the car a rather strange look. One gets the feeling that the car was cut off the top of the body right before the sale and hastily welded some other, it looks so inharmonious. On the other hand, there are no comrades for the taste and color, so there are plenty of fans of such a bold decision.
But you feel the advantages of a design that is seemingly wild at first glance only when you sit in a salon and feel the unusual space at shoulder level.
With prolonged use, you will also notice that during rain you can open the window - water practically does not get inside.
And then comes the understanding that the main thing in this car is passenger comfort and practical use, and luxury is a secondary matter.
By the way, another rather strange feature of Fiat Multipla is that not one of its windows can be opened completely. This is an obvious flaw on the part of the developers of this model.
Interior design
And here, designers supported the general concept of non-standard cars: in front there are three seats! Moreover, there are also three of them in the back! So at the same time in Fiat Multipla six (!) People can comfortably sit, and if necessary - all eight!
Also surprising is the position of the information block - in the center of the front panel, and right in front of the steering wheel there is a glove compartment. At first it seems very strange, and you think that getting used to this is simply impossible. But after you train a bit, it becomes clear that this arrangement is the most convenient: you don’t have to look “through the steering wheel” at the dashboard, and you don’t have to reach for the glove compartment - everything is at hand.
Looking into the trunk of the Fiat Multipla, one cannot help but be surprised at its immodest size. And if you also fold the rear seats, then it acquires a truly huge volume, which allows you to use it not only for family trips, but also for transportation of ample bulky and heavy loads.
Characteristics
After such a stormy description of the design of the car, you can imagine that its technical characteristics will amaze you with something. But these are misleading expectations. Under the hood is a fairly average 1.6-liter Bipower engine with a capacity of only one hundred horsepower. Its distinctive feature is that it can work on both gasoline and methane. The volume of the gas tank is thirty-eight liters, and the gas cylinders are one hundred sixty-four liters. Because of its hybridity, this engine is one hundred and seventy kilograms heavier than its gasoline counterpart.
In 2002, the Fiat Multipla was improved: the same “welded” body was replaced with a more familiar version. And you can’t say that it benefited the car. After all, the model itself has always been so different from other machines that a non-standard appearance has become an integral part of its overall image.
In general, the Fiat Multipla is a fairly convenient family car, which in addition can be used to transport large loads.
