The current governor of the Sakhalin Region Oleg Kozhemyako is a person with a rich biography. He comes from Chernihiv, which is located in the Primorsky Territory. After graduating from high school, he entered the assembly college of Khabarovsk, and ten years after graduating from it, in 1992, he became a student at the Far Eastern Commercial Institute. Like other citizens of the Soviet Union, Oleg Kozhemyako served two years in the armed forces.
Business on fish
In the early 90s of the last century, the ex-governor of the Amur region was actively engaged in entrepreneurial activity, opening the Primorsky cooperative, which was then transformed into a large production structure.
In the late 90s, Oleg Kozhemyako became interested in the fishing business, heading the board of directors of the well-known company Preobrazhenskaya Trawl Fleet Base OJSC, whose financial condition left much to be desired in those years. However, Oleg Kozhemyako managed to get the company out of the crisis. He also owned the Argo-1 distillery and was engaged in the production of vodka, which he called Nikita Kozhemyak.
Conquest of the political Olympus
In 2001, a coastal businessman decided to try himself in the political field. He becomes a parliamentarian of the local legislative body, as well as a member of the Duma committee, which oversees food policy and environmental management in the region. A year later, Oleg Kozhemyako became a representative in the upper house of the Russian parliament from Primorye. It should be noted that representatives of the local administration, headed by Sergey Darkin , were against this appointment, but lobbyists from the team of ex-governor Yevgeny Nazdratenko helped the owner of the Argo-1 distillery.
In September 2004, he announced his resignation from the post of senator and became the right hand speaker of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov.
Appointment to office
At the end of 2004, Oleg Kozhemyako took the third position in the governor’s elections in the Kamchatka region, with the support of only 14% of the vote.
In January 2005, a politician from Primorye received the position of vice-governor of the Koryagsky Autonomous Okrug (KAO), in charge of the “Northern Delivery”. Two months later, the head of KAO Vladimir Loginov resigned from his post, and in April 2005 Oleg Nikolaevich Kozhemyako was already replaced. However, the coastal businessman will work in this status for only two years, since after the unification of Kamchatka and Koryakia he will resign. However, the political career of Oleg Nikolaevich had a brilliant continuation - he was offered a job as an assistant to the head of the presidential administration.
New position
Already in the fall of 2008, Oleg Kozhemyako was Governor. This time, he was entrusted to the Amur Region. It is noteworthy that in 2012 he won the gubernatorial elections, and again took the post of head of the Annunciation administration.

It should be noted that Oleg Kozhemyako (Governor of the Amur Region) made a lot of useful things for the region. Everyone knows that the above subject of the Russian Federation is a "donor", and with huge debts. Despite such serious problems, the coastal businessman managed not to aggravate the situation: he was even able to implement some investment projects. In particular, agreements were concluded with Gazprom on increasing regional investments. Do not forget that a grandiose project called the Vostochny Cosmodrome is being implemented on the territory of the Amur Region, and although Oleg Nikolaevich’s merit in this matter is minimal, the attention of the federal authorities to the state of affairs in the region has increased. One way or another, but the Amur Region, according to the latest ratings, has firmly taken the position of a region with high economic stability.
It is noteworthy that Kozhemyako took 17th position in the ranking of the effectiveness of governors, which, of course, is a good indicator.
Another appointment
Recently, Oleg Kozhemyako was appointed to the post of head of the Sakhalin Oblast. This can be considered an increase in political career.
Sakhalin, of course, is not as densely populated as the Amur Region, but it has a fairly strong economy. For information, the year before last, the GRP of the island amounted to a little more than 670 billion rubles, while the Amur figure was at around 211 billion rubles.
In any case, Kozhemyako needs to do a lot for even more prosperity of the region entrusted to him. First of all, it is necessary to actively develop the oil and gas production industry, and invest money in the fishing industry. In addition, attempts must be made to resolve with Japan the issue of its territorial claims on some Russian islands. The region needs serious investment.
In addition, it is important to put things in order in the affairs of Kozhemyako’s predecessor, Alexander Khoroshavin, who is currently in the pre-trial detention center.
