The Holy Spirit Church (Krasnodar) began the countdown of its history a long time ago, namely, right after the founding of Ekaterinograd.
From the distant history of the temple
The first millennium of our era, namely 891, the history of this building originates from here. At that time, on the Black Sea, not far from the Crimean coast, a ship with Greeks on board fell into a very strong and terrible storm. Everyone who was on board at that time began to ask for the help of St. Victorious George. Of course, he heard the prayers of the Greeks and appeared before them on a huge stone, thereby stopping the storm and leading people away from perdition.
This incident contributed to the fact that the Greeks soon after salvation erected a monastery in honor of the Holy, today it is called the Holy Spirit Church. Krasnodar is considered his hometown. In those days, the temple was called the Balaklava monastery because of the nearby village. I must say that the place there is very picturesque and since ancient times has attracted tourists. The temple was visited by many people, including the well-known emperor Nicholas I along with his wife.
The foundation of the monastery
Back in 1793, the city of Yekaterinodar was founded by Cossacks, which is now called Krasnodar. The northern part was mastered by the monks, where they organized a chapel with a monastery. And in the future, the building will be called the Temple of the Nativity. Krasnodar will take everyone to visit this famous monastery.
Already in the mid-nineteenth century, the compound began to rebuild. A chapel, a prayer house, a rector’s house and two brick buildings were erected here, even farm buildings took place here. The territory of the farmstead began to be decorated with a fruit garden.
Already at the end of the nineteenth century, the Igumen Nikandrat appealed to the City Duma of Yekaterinrad, where he asked for help with the construction of the church on the territory of the already existing courtyard.
Construction
Of course, there was not enough money for the monastery, so its construction was very delayed, although it was already approved by the City Duma. Only in 1985 during the summer period the first stone of the monastery was laid, and its construction began.
To our great regret, the name of the architect who developed the project itself did not survive. But according to some reports, Malgerb took part in the construction, so it is generally accepted that he is the very architect who led the construction.
The construction was completed only in 1903, and already on November 30 of the same year the church was consecrated in the name of St. Great Martyr George the Victorious. So the Holy Spirit Temple appeared. Krasnodar became a famous city in the Orthodox world.
Performed a temple in the Byzantine style. The structure includes the Central part and two aisles. The base is crowned with five domes, the remaining six rose above the aisles, all domes have the shape of a bulb.
What's with the temple today
The big event was that after a long wait, the Holy Spirit Church was nevertheless erected. Krasnodar today is visited by many people who come to the church. It is known that she underwent many troubles, but still defended her right to exist.
So, she survived the years of persecution: when all the churches were destroyed, the St. George Church remained untouched and always received parishioners. The only thing is the loss of part of the territory that originally belonged to the temple. Today, about one tenth remains. Despite all this, he still pleases the eye - St. George's Church. Krasnodar, on the other hand, can be proud of having a church on its territory that not a single revolution could break.
Today, the townspeople and guests of the city come not only to look at the relics that the temple stores, but also to find peace of mind. The doors of the temple are always open.
