Signals of the traffic controller. Memo to the motorist

There are 4 types of traffic regulation: traffic light, marking, traffic signs and traffic signals. Drivers are required to clearly follow them all. However, according to the "Rules of the Road", the signals of the traffic controller are priority. If the requirements of a traffic light and a traffic sign differ from each other, drivers are guided by the instructions of the first. But if, for example, the traffic signals and the traffic controller contradict each other, you need to follow the latter. Therefore, it is necessary to know and understand the gestures of the traffic police officer to all motorists and pedestrians.

traffic signals
If the adjuster pulls both hands forward, to the sides or lowers at the seams:

  • to the left and to the right of it, the tram has the right to go straight; trackless vehicles - right and right; pedestrians can safely cross the road;
  • those who are in front and behind are obliged to stand still.

traffic controller signals
If the adjuster extends his right hand forward:

  • traffic is allowed to the left only by tram to the left, and to other vehicles - in any direction;
  • cars and other vehicles located on the side of the police officer’s chest have the right to continue driving only to the right;
  • On the right and back, everyone should stop.

traffic signals and traffic controller
If the traffic controller raises his hand up (this gesture is equivalent to a yellow traffic signal), then in this case both pedestrians and vehicles cannot continue to move. This rule does not apply to drivers who can stop at this time only if they use emergency braking. They are allowed to complete the maneuver and continue driving. Also, pedestrians, during the signal crossing the carriageway, must reach a safe place or, if this is not possible, get on the marking line separating traffic flows.

In conditions of poor visibility, the signals of the traffic controller are given using a rod or a red reflector. A loudspeaker may also be used. Traffic police officers often use a whistle to attract the attention of pedestrians and drivers.

Traffic control signals do not need to be crammed as a poem, they just need to be understood and remembered.

With a signal prohibiting passage, drivers must stop:

a) at the stop line;

b) at intersections - in front of the intersected road;

c) before the railway crossing;

d) in front of the traffic controller or traffic light, without disturbing pedestrians and vehicles whose movement is permitted.

The easiest way to remember the traffic controller’s signals is this: when they are allowed to move, you can go “from sleeve to sleeve”. This means that trams are allowed to go in the direction of the hands, and the rest of the cars are also to the right.

A very important way to regulate traffic is a traffic light.

traffic light

Its signals can be X-shaped, round, in the form of an arrow indicating the direction, in the form of a pedestrian silhouette. They are served in colors - green, yellow and red.

Consider some of the most important traffic lights roundabouts:

  • green signal allows movement;
  • flashing green light - the time when you can go or go is running out. Often at traffic lights, a scoreboard with seconds remaining until its end also burns;
  • a yellow signal prohibits movement and indicates an imminent change of command;
  • flashing yellow light allows you to move, warns of the presence of a pedestrian crossing or an unregulated intersection ;
  • red color, including blinking, prohibits movement.

The traffic light signal in the form of an arrow shows which direction traffic is currently allowed or prohibited . If you can go left, then a U-turn is allowed, but only if it does not contradict the traffic sign or marking line.
