Orenburg is an important industrial and transport center of the Ural region, in which more than 550 thousand people live. The city is located on the Ural River, on the conditional border between Europe and Asia. In this article, we will examine in detail the areas of Orenburg, their borders and location.
The territorial division of the city: features and interesting facts
The territory of the city is divided into 4 administrative units. This is the Central, Dzerzhinsky, Industrial and Leninsky district. Orenburg also includes ten villages and towns. Previously, they were independent settlements.
Areas of Orenburg are divided into smaller areas and housing estates. The names of some of them are rather bizarre and unusual.
So, for example, the village of Podmayachny (this is its official name), the locals nicknamed Shanghai. As you know, districts with this name are present in many cities of the post-Soviet space and they are distinguished by an increased criminogenic situation. The Orenburg "Shanghai" is no exception, although now quite wealthy and law-abiding citizens are actively settling there.
Another housing estate in Orenburg - the air town - is called Africa. Where this name came from is not exactly known. Orenburg has its own “China”, “Paris”, “Albania” ... But for some reason, the solid mass of the private sector in the city center was called the New Building, although the houses here are at least fifty years old. If you delve into the history of Orenburg, then everything will become quite obvious. This area was built up in the middle of the twentieth century after a series of large-scale fires that destroyed a large number of residential buildings in the city. The locals called the newly built houses “new buildings”, and this name was soon assigned to the whole area.
Orenburg districts and their geography
As mentioned above, the administrative structure of the city provides for the division into four territorial entities. The districts of Orenburg were formed in the second half of the last century, and their borders are described in detail in a special decree of 2009.
The industrial area is located in the western part of the city and covers an area of 29 square meters. km Within its borders, there are 219 streets. This area was built up randomly, so bends are characteristic of most of its streets. The name of the district speaks for itself: many of the enterprises of Orenburg are located here.
Dzerzhinsky district is located in the north of the city and has only 59 streets. This is the youngest in age and second largest area in Orenburg. Its development is dominated by modern and multi-storey residential buildings. In addition, the largest office and shopping centers in the city are located here.
The Leninsky district of Orenburg is the largest in area (130 sq. Km.). Within its borders, there are 406 streets. The district occupies the eastern and southeastern part of Orenburg. The main transport axis of the district is Gagarin Avenue, nine kilometers long.
The central district occupies the central part of the city. Within its limits are 144 streets. It is here that the main attractions of Orenburg are located: the garden to them. Frunze, Zauralnaya grove, governor's museum, monuments to Lenin and Chkalov.
Finally
Orenburg is a large industrial, transport and trade center in the Urals. This city has a rather complicated administrative-territorial structure. It is divided into two urban districts, four districts and several dozen neighborhoods and housing estates.
