By order of Academician V. A. Sadovnichy (Rector), in 2013, the biotechnological faculty of Moscow State University was created. The main task that appeared before the new division of the best university in the country was the training of highly qualified specialists for such a field as biotechnology, which is in demand today, for which it is necessary to maintain, maintain and deepen relations between the university and the RAS center in Pushchino. In 2014, the first admission to the biotechnology department of Moscow State University was announced. Here the future integrated masters came to study in the direction of βBiologyβ for four years in the undergraduate program, after which the most successful passed exams to the magistracy, where they enjoyed the lectures of the most stellar teachers for another two years. In the first year, applicants received twenty places where training went at state expense.
It is also interesting that lectures, seminars and laboratory classes were held simultaneously in Moscow and in the science city of Pushchino under the supervision of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Moreover, with each semester, the time spent in the science city increased. It goes without saying that students with such patronage have reached great heights, taking part in the most important scientific studies from the first steps at Moscow State University. In the seventh and eighth semesters, students studied in Pushchino almost the entire week, even a hostel was provided to them.
Biotechnology is an interesting specialty, and the research base in Pushchino is richest, therefore, this mode of training was perceived simply with enthusiasm.
Master
The master's program was established in 2015, and the training for masters in the same way was based on immersion in practical science: students spent most of their time in Pushchino, where the RAS scientific center opened the doors for all of their biological institutes for them. This approach to comprehensive learning, of course, quickly gave the expected results. The faculty was rapidly developing. A license was obtained in the new direction "Biotechnology", there were still as many budget places in the magistracy. The biotechnological faculty of Moscow State University has always been teaching on the basis of scientific research and the full involvement of all students in them.

Reasons for creating a faculty
Earlier, a branch of Moscow State University worked safely and successfully in Pushchino with two areas in which educational activities were conducted. First of all, it should be noted the implementation of biological practices, which were held by students of various faculties. And here there were undergraduate and graduate programs. But it so happened that in 2013 the branch was closed. And now the biotechnological faculty of Moscow State University, created on the basis of the branch, collects the most numerous feedback from applicants.
There was no benefit to the university in losing so well-built ties with the institutes of the center of the RAS, because contacts have been developed for many years. It was to continue the practice that still exists for students of Moscow State University from different faculties, and the biotechnological faculty of Moscow State University was opened. Entrance examinations of the first year after the opening showed that the decision was absolutely correct. And now, masters and bachelors also study here. Nevertheless, the biotechnology department differs radically from the branch.
What are the differences?
The fundamental differences between the new division of Moscow State University and the previously existing branch are that students study basic disciplines that form all the main competencies in the profession, in Moscow. All this is taught to them at the biological, chemical and physical faculties, where the quality of education is just a gold test - the best possible. In the same place, in laboratories, and work on basic disciplines are carried out.
But special subjects are taught in Pushchino, where the science city provides all the institutions corresponding to this specialization. The curriculum of the biotechnological faculty is prepared taking into account professional characteristics. For example, students study organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology a whole year earlier than at the Faculty of Biology. That is why it is possible to introduce biotechnological special disciplines directly from the first courses.
Engineering profile
Biotechnological training is linked together, not divided into separate special courses. For example, industrial microbiology and biotechnology are not taught by cytologists, and cellular biotechnology is not taught to microbiologists. Knowledge is obtained by specialized, continuous in the chosen direction of training.
But along with biological disciplines at the faculty, engineering subjects β engineering graphics, applied physics, apparatuses and processes of biotechnology β receive enormous attention. All this is absent at the Faculty of Biology. This engineering unit gives students all the foundations on which the production process is based.
Specialization
In the learning process, each student will have to be engaged in laboratory research, thus gaining the necessary skills to work on industrial equipment. Specialists, graduates of the faculty, know the biotechnological process at all its levels - from the beginning of the development of an idea, through experimental laboratory tests, to scaling the process to the production level.
Students learn to use the most modern methods - physico-chemical, microbiological, molecular biological. They already know how to work with experimental animals according to the standards of laboratory practice. They can calculate the technology for obtaining products, they know the parameters of devices, processes, the economic yield of the product and much more. All this became possible precisely because the research base is very good, as well as highly professional courses, which are held at the Faculty of Biotechnology.
Competencies
Students of the Faculty of Biotechnology are savvy even in the areas of industry economics and intellectual property protection. Specialization always goes hand in hand with classical traditional university education. Biological and chemical preparation is very high, it is exactly the same as that of students in the chemical and biological faculties. Since the educational process is fully integrated into the functionality of the Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Pushchino, students take part in special workshops there, participate in the development of scaling of biotechnological processes, and their graduation projects are also carried out there.
All nine RAS institutes located in Pushchino and related to the biological profile help to train highly qualified specialists. These institutes are engaged in bioorganic chemistry, cell biophysics, biological instrumentation (this institute also has pilot production), fundamental problems of biology, and much more. Students were extremely fortunate to use the base of the PSC RAS. These are strong scientific schools, well-equipped laboratories and excellent specialists with the highest qualifications.
