A variety of building materials are used in the decoration of the premises. One of them is drywall. Partitions, suspended ceilings are created from it. Alignment of walls and production of unusual interior elements are also carried out. To decorate the room, plasterboard figures are created.
Material benefits
Before finishing the room with this material, you should familiarize yourself with its advantages:
- Excellent thermal insulation properties. The material, of course, is different from brick. But its ability to insulate allows you to create comfort indoors. And if polystyrene or mineral wool will still be used, then it will turn out to save on heating.
- Flexibility and lightness. Thanks to these properties, it is possible to realize original ideas. Rectangular and semicircular details are created from drywall. It can be used to obtain niches and install built-in fixtures.
- Fire resistance. This characteristic will be indispensable in case of fire. Usually only the top cardboard part lights up. In addition, there are fire-resistant sheets of drywall.
- Water resistance. Because of this, the sheets do not absorb moisture. Therefore, they are suitable for use in the kitchen and in the bathroom without the risk of deformation of the finish.
- Hiding communications. The material allows you to remove wires, pipes from the eyes. Only revision hatches are required so that, if necessary, repairs do not remove all panels.
Plasterboard figures for a corridor, kitchen or other room can decorate a room. The main thing is that they are appropriate in the interior.
disadvantages
But drywall also has disadvantages:
- Fragility. The main disadvantage of the material is insufficient strength. Sheets crack during transportation, installation, operation.
- Poor soundproofing properties. Through such a partition all sounds will be heard. Mineral wool will solve the problem.
Plasterboard figures can be on the walls, ceiling. This material is used to make whole compositions. It is used to create shelves, arches, partitions.
Dimensions
Before you finish the room, you need to know the size and price of the drywall sheet. Its standard parameters in length are 200-400 cm in increments of 5 cm. Two widths are 60 and 120 cm.
Thickness is usually selected at 6.5 or 12.5 mm. The ends of the sheets are made straight, rounded, smooth and evenly refined on one side. The size and price of the drywall sheet may vary by manufacturers. The cost of the Volma material is 186-260 rubles, Knauf 220-330, Abdullingips 170-250.
There are 2 ways to make drywall figures:
- Dry.
- Wet.
Dry method
It is considered the simplest, it uses arched material. The thickness of the sheets is 6 mm, so they are easily bent and take the necessary shape. When dry, it is possible to bend them 10 cm.
Before bending, you need to create the desired frame from a metal profile, on the side of which there are cuts. The drywall part is attached to the profile, screwing is performed by self-tapping screws for GCR, and it also bends by design. The self-tapping step is 25 cm.
Do not bend drywall with great effort, it can break. Work must be done carefully. If the curvature is more than 10 cm, then small V-shaped slots should be made on the other side of the bend. Slots are made in parallel.
Wet method
If there will be a heavy load on the structure, then ordinary material should be used to create figures from drywall. Just need a wet method using the following instructions:
- Making a template from plywood or profile.
- With warm water, you need to moisten the element from the outside. To do this, use a roller or brush.
- Due to moisture, the material bends easily.
- When the part becomes pliable, it is necessary to fix it to the template and leave to dry.
There is another way to bend. The sheet needs to be fixed on the support and put on it oppression. The load should not be put too heavy. If the curvature is greater than 6 cm, then perforation of the drywall fragment must be performed. To do this, they pierce it with a needle roller. Many holes form on the surface, thanks to which moisture quickly enters the middle. This method will allow you to create any form.
Mounting Methods
Plasterboard figures on the wall and ceiling are made on glue and frame. Both options have their own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. Mounting on glue is considered the easiest. It is only necessary to cut out the necessary construction from drywall and attach it to the surface. For this, silicate glue or tile mortar is used. The material can be glued on several layers.
For curved ceilings and drywall constructions, it is necessary to use a strong frame, if this method of fastening is chosen. The profile should have a cross section of 75-200 mm. For a curly wall, it is better to take 50-75 mm. To get a smooth bend, you need to create cuts on the sides of the profile and bend to the required curvature.
If necessary, you can purchase an arched element, including individual movable segments. Radius sections are connected by jumpers. First, you can make a frame with bolted fragments of drywall elements. Or create a template of the desired shape, and then make a curved part from the material. Installation of complex figures from drywall should be performed only if there is experience in this work.
Sheathing
After preparing the frame, you can mount the drywall:
- It is necessary to cut the material.
- Then screwing on the screws is performed: first on the side fragments.
- The front part of the figure must be sewn up.
After that, you can finish the structure. There are several options for assembling the frame and plastering plasterboard figures for the kitchen and other rooms. The frame is attached to the resulting fragment, and only then it is screwed to the wall and sheathed with plasterboard plates. The interior of the room, where there are original figures, looks unusual. If you create a niche for the TV, shelves for storing things, decor, then the design will be ergonomic.
Decoration figures
Different materials are used for decoration. The following options are possible:
- If you use contrasting wallpapers, you will be able to emphasize the interior.
- Having completed the curly wall in the form of an arch, it will turn out to divide the space into parts.
- Figured walls painted in different colors look original.
- Can be used for decoration plaster decorative stone brick.
The ceilings
Drywall can be used to decorate the ceiling. The material can help in the implementation of various ideas. Multilevel ceilings look original, allowing you to install additional lighting - spotlights or LEDs. This will create the effect of a starry sky or a soaring ceiling.
Arches
There are complex and simple drywall shapes that can be used to create arches. This technique is used where there are no doors. For example, in small rooms in which without doors the space will be expanded.
Arches will be a connecting part between rooms, they serve as a zoning structure. They also eliminate defects in doorways that are often found in apartments.
Shelves and niches
Itβs rare in which apartment there is a Soviet wall. But before, this piece of furniture was everywhere. Instead, niches and shelves began to be used, which can be easily created from a Knauf sheet.
A TV, photographs, souvenirs or books can easily fit into a niche. Compared to wooden furniture, they do not need special care. In addition, they look compact.
Decorative elements
To the interior was not boring and strict, it is complemented by decorative details. As a decoration, you can use mirrors, glass, ceramics, metal, plastic or acrylic.
A popular decoration is LED backlighting. With it, not only the design is decorated, but also an important function is provided - lighting. The backlight creates a romantic atmosphere in the room.
Plasterboard parts look great in kitchens, which make excellent niches for storing dishes. The material is used to make shelves for the pantry - different in size and shape. In the office, the design can serve as a bookcase for storing books, and in the bedroom it can be made of drywall headboard.
Thus, the figures can be made independently. But this applies to simple elements. If you want to perform complex designs from drywall, then it is better to turn to professionals. A competent approach in this matter will ensure a quality repair.
