There is nothing more beautiful in this world than the birth of a new life. An important role in this process is played by medical workers who receive pregnant women, helping babies to be born. To become such a specialist, you need to get an appropriate medical education. Which university to choose? One suitable option is the Pediatric Academy on Lithuanian in St. Petersburg, which several years ago acquired the status of a university.
How the university was created
It all started in 1925 in Leningrad. On the basis of a working children's hospital, the Institute for the Protection of Infancy and Maternity was opened. One of its brightest founders was Julia Aronovna Mendeleev. She made a huge contribution to the development of the created organization. It was under her leadership that the institute turned into a reputable university, created with the aim of training pediatricians.
The Institute for the Protection of Infancy and Maternity lasted until 1932. Then, a medical university hospital was opened at its base and the enrollment of students wishing to become doctors was begun. Under this name, the educational institution worked until 1935. Then it was transformed into the Leningrad Medical Pediatric Institute.
The impact of World War II
The Institute in Leningrad, which is now called the St. Petersburg Pediatric Medical Academy (University), conducted not only educational activities. His tasks also included the provision of medical care to people in the clinical hospital, which is part of the educational institution, the conduct of scientific research by scientists working here. During the Great Patriotic War, the activities of the institute did not change. He continued to train doctors in bomb shelters.
University workers assisted sick and debilitated children. They also set up a hospital for wounded soldiers. Surgeons in difficult conditions did their job. It is also worth noting that the war did not cause the cessation of scientific research. They were carried out, despite all the difficulties. A very important role was played by specialists who were able to develop milk substitutes for baby food.
Post-war years
The news of the end of World War II was received with great joy. Doctors, teachers and students made an important contribution to the victory, saved a considerable number of adults and children. Such a significant event in the history of the country was the beginning of a new period in the life of the institute - restoration and development.
In the postwar period, the university was led by several different people. Each of them had a positive impact on the development of the institute and contributed to this process. As a result, the educational institution received a new status. In 1994, it was no longer an institute, but a pediatric academy. But the university became a university later - in 2012.
