Now the so-called beauty injections are at the peak of popularity. With their help, you can easily make yourself younger by 10-15 years without resorting to surgical interventions. But besides the usual Botox, Dysport also appeared. Is there a difference in them, and if so, which? Which is better: Botox or Dysport? Let's try to figure it out.
What is Dysport?
This is a drug whose main active ingredient is a botulinum toxin type A. To increase the binding ability, as well as for conservation, a special protein, albumin, is added to the drug. It is used in cosmetology to correct age-related changes and asymmetries, as well as in neurology to relieve spasticity after a stroke or with cerebral palsy. It’s just that you cannot buy it in a pharmacy; it can only be purchased by a cosmetologist with a diploma or clinic. “Dysport” is made by the French company Beafour Ipsen Speywood.
The toxin is obtained from the rod-shaped bacteria Clostridium botulinum, which in their pure form cause a dangerous disease - botulism, in which the autonomic nervous system is damaged and most muscles are paralyzed, including those responsible for breathing. The signals transmitted through the nerve fibers to the muscles, under the influence of this toxin, are temporarily blocked. And this time is sometimes quite enough for death to occur.
But humanity has put a side effect of this toxin at the service of beauty. In preparations like "Dysport" it is in a harmless form and dosage. If you correctly calculate the dose and thoroughly know the structure of muscles and nerve endings in the face, then you can block a specific muscle. At the same time, the supply of nutrients and blood supply do not suffer. Despite the fact that wrinkles are folds on the skin, they are caused by a pathology of muscles that, with age, are no longer able to support the skin correctly. And if the muscles are relaxed, then without unnecessary muscle contractions, these folds themselves will be smoothed out. In an applied sense, Dysport is a drug that blocks muscle in the right place.
What effect can be achieved
Best with the help of the drug "Dysport" you can cope with wrinkles in the following areas:
- neck;
- the area around the eyes;
- interbrow area;
- forehead.
With wrinkles on the chin and lips, nasolacrimal and nasolabial furrows, the situation is more complicated. Since the muscles on the lower third of the face are huge, and they are all microscopic, it’s very difficult to get to the right one. And if you miss, then there is a risk of giving the person a serious asymmetry, and facial expressions can become unpredictable. Therefore, in these areas they try not to use Dysport.
How Botox differs from Disport
In its purpose and effect, it is practically the same drug as Dysport, but of another manufacturer - the Irish pharmaceutical corporation Allergan. The basis of Botox are the same bacteria of Clostridium botulinum. In terms of effectiveness and safety, they are the same, both drugs are officially registered, have passed all the necessary studies and received a certificate. But Botox is more concentrated. This only affects how many milliliters of the drug you need to enter. When the degree of muscle blockage is minimal, it is better to use Dysport. It’s easier to work with him jewelry, because it’s never too late to add a little, and it is problematic to withdraw the excess drug introduced. Here are some more differences between the drugs:
- Dysport will not “take” deep wrinkles, in this case Botox is needed;
- the result from injections with Botox manifests itself 2-3 days earlier;
- the shelf life of Botox is 2 years, and Dysport is only one year;
- an additional ingredient in Botox is sodium chloride, and in Dysport, lactose;
- Botox is the only drug of its kind to pass the NIBSC test.
It is difficult to say unequivocally that it is better, “Botox” or “Dysport”. Rather, it depends on the age of the patient. Botox is better for older patients. And much more depends on the reaction of the body: it happens that Botox acts stronger, but sometimes vice versa.
Other analogues
In Russia in 2014, the pharmaceutical company Microgen launched the production of a drug based on botulinum toxin type A - Relatox. So far, the reviews on the duration and impact are positive, and the price is pleasing. But since the drug is new, there is still little trust in it.
In Germany, Merz Aesthetics produces Xeomin. In 2010, he was certified for use in Russia. The fundamental difference from the "brothers" is that it has the smallest amount of ingredients in the composition, due to the lack of stabilizing substances. And this minimizes the risks of allergic reactions. But the drug with respect to Dysport is new and therefore much less studied. In addition, the effect of it will last no more than six months.
The Chinese counterpart is called Lantox. They have been producing it for a long time - since 1997, and it has been present on the world market for only 11 years. Its main competitive advantage is the price.
There are other analogues, but only these are popular in Russia.
Contraindications
Contraindications for Dysport are as follows:
- age less than 18 years;
- pregnancy and lactation;
- bleeding disorders;
- inflammatory processes on the face;
- alcoholism and drug addiction;
- any serious diseases of the body;
- oncology;
- suspicious neoplasms on the face;
- individual susceptibility to the components of the drug.
The cosmetologist is obliged to identify and clarify whether there are any contraindications to Dysport. If the client provides false information, then all risks will be personally borne.
Compatibility with other drugs
Dysport is incompatible with the following groups of drugs:
- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
- anticoagulants;
- antiplatelet agents;
- muscle relaxants;
- antidepressants.
They can lead either to an increase in the effect or to the neutralization of the toxin.
Preparation for the procedure
Before the procedure, the cosmetologist will conduct a conversation to clarify contraindications. If it is decided to give Dysport injections, then two weeks before this, you must stop taking all incompatible drugs. And a day before the procedure, refuse the following:
- physical activity and sports;
- epilation and depilation on the face;
- tanning beds and the active effects of sunlight;
- alcohol intake.
Immediately before the procedure, cleanse the skin of the face from dirt and dirt, remove the piercing, collect hair and lie down on a special couch. Then the beautician will examine the facial muscles of the client. During the inspection, he will ask the client to make various grimaces. This is normal, so the cosmetologist will see in what condition the muscles are and where exactly they are located. The necessary markings will be made with a marker.
Then, using a mirror, the cosmetologist will reveal exactly what result the client needs. And based on this, the dose and zones will be determined. Sometimes it happens that the dose has to be added during the procedure itself, it depends only on the individual susceptibility to the drug.
Procedure
After the dosage is selected and the markup is done, the beautician will begin the direct administration of the drug. The procedure goes like this:
- The skin of the face and neck is wiped with a special antiseptic.
- If the patient has a low pain threshold, then the places of upcoming injections are anesthetized. But most do without it.
- An ampoule is opened, the drug is recruited. The minimum dosage of Disport is 300 active units. But even if less is needed, you will have to pay for the entire ampoule, since each new ampoule must be opened exclusively with the client.
- Injections of "Dysport" are made, usually it lasts from 10 to 20 minutes.
- The puncture sites are treated with cold and after 15 minutes the patient can go home.
The cosmetologist will voice the recommendations, tell you what to do after the “Disport” cannot be categorically, and will invite you after 2 weeks for a follow-up examination. Sometimes at the control examination it turns out that additional correction is required.
What can not be done after the procedure
In the first two days you can’t drink categorically! It must be remembered that Dysport and alcohol are incompatible, since an overdose of alcohol causes a rush of blood to the face, and Dysport can behave unpredictably. No wonder one of the contraindications is alcoholism, as it is a disease in which a person cannot control himself.
On the first day you need to try not to tilt your head, not to sleep face-down on a pillow, and especially not to run and not to play sports. It is advisable to take care in advance so that the day of the procedure and the following are days off, spend them lying upright, without leaning to one side.
How long does the effect last?
After a certain period of time, usually ranging from 3 to 9 months, the action of "Dysport" ends. Nerve fibers begin to overgrow with new living processes, and the ability to transmit impulses to the muscles gradually returns to them. The duration of this period depends on the following factors:
- compliance with recommendations;
- individual susceptibility and regeneration rate;
- the number of procedures for administering a drug based on botulinum toxin.
Many "sit down" on the procedure, because, having seen themselves once younger, they no longer want to observe the real situation. But according to reviews about Dysport, after several procedures in a row you get used to not frowning your forehead, and therefore the skin still looks different.
Negative consequences
These consequences may be of the following nature:
- inflammatory processes;
- hematomas and swelling that does not go away for more than a week;
- itching and peeling;
- facial asymmetry;
- ptosis;
- “Surprised” facial expression;
- severe allergic reactions.
If any of the above is suspected and generally worries, then you will urgently need to contact a dermatologist.
All negative consequences are somehow connected with the following factors:
- fake
- incorrect introduction of "Disport";
- improper storage and expired shelf life;
- non-compliance with sanitary measures;
- incorrect detection of contraindications.
If the drug is real and properly stored, and the beautician is ideally versed in the dosage and structure of the face, then the risk of negative consequences is minimal.
How to choose a clinic and beautician
First you need to “polish” reviews about this clinic and certain cosmetologists working in it. In large clinics, the price tag will always be more expensive, this is an overpayment for a big name, and, accordingly, for the reliability of the clinic. The best reviews, of course, will come from real people, as they can be bought on the Internet. Next, you need to make sure that the clinic and the cosmetologist have all the necessary certificates and diplomas. A cosmetologist should have a higher medical education. With this procedure, it is very important to know the structure of the facial muscles, and this is a rather complex and deep topic.

Now, many self-taught beauticians offer a home-based treatment at a very attractive price. But it is worthwhile to understand that in addition to the above-mentioned consequences, if you trust the amateur, you can get more serious problems, such as sepsis, infection with AIDS or hepatitis, tissue necrosis and anaphylactic shock. Therefore, it is better not to save on such serious procedures. Indeed, in the case of improper use of Disport for the eyelids, the procedure cannot be reversed, such as lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid. One of the main advantages of a good clinic is that its specialists always diagnose possible negative consequences and help solve them, even if they did not happen through their fault, since such an institution values its reputation very much.
Reviews about "Dysport"
"Dysport" is better suited for those with wrinkles that are still not deep. After all, the habit of wrinkling the forehead can lead to an eyebrow wrinkle already in 20 years. In such cases, Botox will be too potent. Those who injected Botox before Dysport note that it lasts longer and “grabs” wrinkles a little better. And the main thing that is noted is that the effect is noticeable later, not after 3-5 days, as in the case of Botox, but after a week. But there are those who have “Dysport lasts longer.
Since Botox has been present on the Russian market much longer, some have developed resistance to it. In some cases, this stability does not apply to Dysport.
Comments on the combination of "Dysport" and alcohol say that the drug simply may not work. One glass of wine probably will not affect, but if you drink decently in the evening after the procedure, then, most likely, the money spent will be thrown into the wind, and this will be the best outcome. Worst may be that "Dysport" will act incorrectly, and the person will skew.
According to reviews of "Dysport", with the correct introduction, it does not completely block facial expressions. With jewelry movements, you can completely save the ability to move eyebrows, but at the same time raise them.
Reviews about Dysport say that for the same result, it needs three times more than Botox. But on the other hand, it costs less, and the price difference is leveled out by this, and more often even Dysport is more profitable.
