X5 (BMW): bodywork and generation

First generation

In 1999, the first crossover in the history of BMW was presented at the Detroit Auto Show. A new series and a new experience, because before the Bavarians did not produce all-wheel drive crossovers. The car received an X5 index. The letters indicate the presence of permanent four-wheel drive. The number 5 indicates that the crossover platform belongs to the fifth BMW series. The bodies, of course, were changed to match the off-road class, but the platform and wheelbase remained unchanged.

The E53 body was a breakthrough for the company. He was graduated in the USA. This model was brought to Europe only in 2000. In 2003, this crossover was updated through facelift. This event was dedicated to the presentation of the junior crossover in the series - X3. Changes affected the front of the car. Under the hood of the car, there are 3 gasoline and one diesel unit to choose from. At the end of 2006, the first generation was removed from the BMW conveyor. The bodies for such a long period of release are outdated and in need of changes.

The new version of the crossover has undergone external and technical changes, but has not changed dramatically. The car was produced for 6 years - until 2013. In 2010, the Bavarians restyled. The front and rear optics, bumpers and fenders have been modified.

There have also been changes under the hood. The crossover received new gasoline units and a redesigned diesel engine. The changes also affected the transmission - the gearbox was replaced with an 8-speed instead of a 6-speed. In 2013, the release of the second generation was completed.

Third generation

The first rumors about the new F15 body appeared during the production of the second generation in 2012. As for the new BMW X5 body, the changes again came out not entirely revolutionary. Again bumpers, optics and small items. Although the platform has been modified, the entire engine range is turbocharged. It includes 4 gasoline and 2 diesel units. All modifications are equipped exclusively with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The first BMW crossover , whose bodies have changed little over three generations, remains the most popular in the X series to date, even despite the appearance of two younger models - X1 and X2.
