A sink is an extremely important attribute in any kitchen. Today there is a huge variety of models, but each option has its own advantages and characteristics. Most often, the owners of a roomy kitchen decide to install an overhead sink, since different options can be used to implement this idea. The main thing is to prepare in advance all the necessary tools and materials.
Short description
The modern range of kitchen sinks impresses with their diversity. The final choice directly depends on the wishes of the buyer, the design of the premises and the required dimensions. Experts highlight several key parameters:
- Material. Manufacturers most often use stainless steel with chrome or nickel plating, as well as porcelain stoneware, glass, acrylic.
- Fixation method. Sinks are mounted, overhead and embedded. The first option is practically not used today, since the product will look harmoniously only in state institutions and communal apartments.
- The form. Modern technologies make it possible to produce oval, round, rectangular, square and angular models.
- The location of the mixer. The purchased tap can be installed on the wall or sink.
- Complete set with additional elements. The user can install a surface-mounted sink on the cabinet with his own hands, and then equip it with taps for the washing machine, water filters.
The most popular today are stainless steel sinks. If the product is of high quality, then the magnet is attached tightly, otherwise the product may deteriorate before the time specified by the manufacturer.
Necessary tools
If the master only determines how to correctly install the purchased wash, then it should be noted that for fixing the invoice model it is not at all necessary to buy specialized tools. To embed a product into a laminated countertop from durable MDF or particleboard, it is necessary to prepare the basic devices in advance:
- A set of screwdrivers of different sizes.
- Standard electric drill with a set of drills of different diameters.
- Acrylic or silicone sealant, high-quality sealant.
- Hacksaw or jigsaw on wood.
- Ruler, marker, meter tape measure.
It is worth noting that using a hacksaw on a tree it is extremely difficult to quickly build the necessary cuts in the countertop. The master will have to make a lot of effort, but the final quality of work will remain at the lowest level. If there is no other way, then it is better to use a canvas with a small tooth.
Preparatory work
Before installing a stainless steel sink, it is necessary to carefully mount all outlets for each siphon and mixer. When the design is securely fixed to the pedestal, then it will be much more difficult to do. If the master uses chipboard, then they need to provide additional protection. The upper ends are treated with silicone, which will subsequently repel moisture.
You can correctly install the overhead sink in the kitchen if you adhere to the following scheme:
- From dense material, you need to build a template in the form of the purchased product. The allowance is 2 centimeters.
- It is necessary to determine the exact configuration of additional elements on the countertop. It is necessary to carefully think over this or that position.
- Countertop protection. The entire space around the installed product must be treated with masking tape (this will help to avoid scratches).
- Using a conventional drill, you need to make starting points, connect them carefully with a chisel to turn into a small gap.
- A thin layer of red sealant is applied to the cut, after which you can install a wash-on wash yourself. Excess funds are removed, after which the structure must be allowed to fix. It remains only to connect the sewer and water supply.
Glue application
It is possible to independently install and fix the surface wash with the help of improvised means. But glue is permissible to use only if the existing underframe ideally matches the sink itself. The product will be located on top, and the ribs will be hidden on the pedestal. A lot of glue needs to be applied, spreading it over the entire contacting surface. Due to this, the penetration of destructive moisture inside can be avoided.
Powerful wooden blocks
If the master does not have fastening corners on hand or if various defects are found on the surface of the cabinet frame, then you can correctly install the surface-mounted sink using blanks from a solid array. For work you will need:
- Furniture corners.
- Wooden blocks of suitable size.
- Self-tapping screws or small nails.
At the first stage, a solid installation site in the form of a standard rectangular frame is necessarily built. In the future, this part will serve as the upper frame of the stand. Thanks to this, the master can hide all existing bumps. In assembled form, the bars are placed in the box of the wash consignment note. The product must be fixed with steel corners around the perimeter. Only then can you install a surface wash on the cabinet.
Standard mounting angles
Installing a kitchen sink can be done much faster if you use these steel parts. Most often, the corners are included with the sink. For a standard product, you need no more than five clips, which are mounted exclusively on the outside of the cabinet. Since the wall thickness of a wooden product rarely exceeds 19 mm, the screws should be 17 millimeters. The traditional scheme is as follows:
- Only 5 mm screws need to be screwed in.
- Mounting angles are hung on the workpiece.
- Screws need not be fully tightened, so that in the end there is an opportunity for adjustment.
- It is necessary to install an overhead sink in such a way that the most powerful self-tapping screw is hidden in the depths of the metal corner.
- At the final stage, all the elements are carefully clamped so that the design is as strong and durable as possible.
Bracket Base
In order to properly install the surface wash, you need to prepare all the necessary holes in advance. It is best to use a standard template, and in its absence, you can simply attach the brackets to the area of ββthe wall where the sink will be installed. Using a conventional marker, all necessary points are marked. Holes are best prepared with a drill with a drill, which is equipped with a victorious tip. The total diameter of the tube should be larger than the working recess. Once the dowels are in place, you can lean the brackets and tighten the screws. For guaranteed fixation in the holes you need to pour a little glue.
During installation of the sink itself, make sure that the upper pin fits snugly into the hole in the lower plane of the base bead. So that the shell does not crack, itβs tedious to put special rubber ring gaskets under all the nuts.
Connection of sewer pipes
The master should approach this process as responsibly as possible. The ends of the connected pipes must match, the final distance between them rarely exceeds two millimeters. The involved coupling-nut should rotate freely by hand even at the moment of setting the main thread. The product needs to be wound up gradually, but you should not make much effort. Otherwise, you can simply disrupt all turns, violating the tightness of the fixation.
It is only possible to establish a quality sink if the mixer is not displaced during operation. Sloppy movements can result in deformation of the structure, which entails a gap in the gasket. Locks of a sealant need to be greased with drying oil or oil paint that will increase the total operational life of the pipeline.
Installation technique
At the first stage, it is necessary to install a faucet with a flexible hose in the sink for supplying clean water, as well as a siphon. Due to this, it is possible to significantly simplify all further connection to the plumbing and sewer system. In many homes, a metal sink made of durable stainless steel on a wooden frame is installed. Such products in 99% of all cases are equipped with guide pins. Installation holes are drilled at the very top of the walls of the cabinet to fit a wooden frame on the pins.
A slightly different installation technology is designed for sinks without a frame. At the initial stage, the master can put around the perimeter wooden blocks of a suitable size and fix them on furniture corners. You can also use L-shaped fasteners made of durable plastic or metal. One side of the product must have a beveled slot. It is worth noting that four powerful self-tapping screws are necessarily screwed on the inner side of the wooden pedestal at a distance of up to 1.5 cm from the upper end at the very edges. Only after installing the sink on the self-tapping screws do they wear a pre-prepared mounting bracket through the hole in the slot. The second side always lies on the curved edge of the sink.
If the fastener was shifted along the oblique slot, then the upper half of the fastening corner gradually falls down, as a result of which the edge of the shell is pressed against the side wall of the cabinet. The end of the cabinet can be additionally greased with sealant, silicone or other water-repellent material. Some modern sink models boast four mounting holes with narrow slots in the curved inner compartment. In such a situation, the top end of the cabinet should contain four screws with a shift relative to the mounting holes.
Key nuances
Experts always draw the attention of newcomers to the fact that without a special key, all operations with a squeezing steel nut on the tee of an installed mixer under the sink will be simply impossible to perform. These manipulations are only possible with the sink removed. In order not to damage the product, it is necessary to prepare the thread of steel pipes, onto which it will be possible to screw the couplings. It is necessary to step back three ends from the end to gently wind the flax threads in an increasing amount clockwise. Such problems are completely eliminated in plastic pipes. If the seal has already been used, then it must be completely removed and the grooves cleaned with an awl.
Final work
After all the manipulations done, it remains only to attach a siphon to the main sewer pipe. Flexible hot water connections from the mixer are connected to the source of hot and cold water supply. After that, you can smoothly open the stopcocks to use the installed structure for its intended purpose. If the craftsmen do not want to waste time, then you can install the Paul sink with conventional fasteners, which look like a hook for hanging on the wall. But in this situation, the corresponding holes should be made on the back of the sink. And the cabinet itself can be placed under the sink, but as a separate element.
