The Samsung M2070 multi-function device has a two-color design: a black A4 flatbed scanner is installed on top of a gray-colored printer. The combination may not be very aesthetically pleasing, but apparently it is a solid MFP with a rather compact size of 406 x 359.6 x 253 mm. The manufacturer offers a standard set of functions, including copying, scanning and printing with the ability to connect via USB or Wi-Fi as a stand-alone or network device.
Design
Unlike most MFPs, the Samsung M2070 is a monochrome laser, not a color inkjet. The rear panel has a power connector and a USB port. The rather ascetic front panel contains a folding tray that holds up to 150 sheets of A4 paper. There is also a retractable output tray stand that provides support for printed documents, as they are displayed at the top of the printer. Although it may seem small and disproportionate, users do not complain that they have to pick up paper from the floor.
In general, this multifunction device works quietly, except for cases of initial warm-up or shutdown. Samsung provides a 500-page starter cartridge upon purchase. Then you will need to purchase a replacement with a capacity of up to 1000 pages.
Control Panel
The elevated platform-type flatbed scanning unit also contains a Samsung M2070 control panel. Speaking as a canopy above the outlet, it contains an LCD screen in two lines of 16 characters each, which provides feedback and access to various menu items and settings. Due to the small size of the screen, it is not so easy to move around when choosing one or another option, even with the help of a navigation disc.
There are buttons for tasks such as scanning, copying, setting up a WPS connection and turning on the energy-saving eco-mode, stop / reset, start and turn on the power. There is a small status light. A little to the left and a little higher on the control panel is an inscription indicating that this multifunctional model has NFC (near field communication). Unfortunately, this feature of Samsung M2070 MFPs is called by some users as inactive. They could not verify it, although remote printing from a smartphone and tablet using the manufacturer’s free mobile application does not cause problems.
It is worth noting here that the wireless interface, NFC printing and scanning, support for Samsung Mobile Print, Google Cloud Print, WSD-scanning are available only in modifications, the name of which contains the designation W.
Samsung M2070 Printer: Getting Started Guide
Setting up the MFP is simple - just insert the cartridge into the housing of the printing device before turning it on and start installing the included software. This software includes printer and scanner drivers, a print manager, scanning, text recognition, and wireless settings applications. Prior to installing these programs, a check will be made for the availability of newer versions. All updates found will then be included in the installation. The user has a choice between a wireless or USB connection, as well as the ability to use the WPS function, if supported by the router.
Quality and performance
In monochrome mode, the resolution of the Samsung M2070 flatbed scanner is determined by the instruction as 1200 dpi. It takes 10 seconds to print a photocopy of A4 format. The scanner can reduce and enlarge the image within 40–400%. You can scan directly to your computer, and Windows owners have the choice between TWAIN and WIA. When using a PC, the resolution of color images can be increased up to 4800 dpi. To work with the scanner, Easy Document Creator is included.
Print options
When printing documents, the Samsung M2070 offers a choice of four options. The user is offered a normal mode, "Eco Printing", "2-in-1" and "Brochure". It is natural to assume that normal mode is suitable for most tasks. A 20-page document prints at a speed of 17.2 ppm, which is close to the declared value. For five pages of text, this setting drops to 11.1 ppm. A single-page copy takes 9 seconds, and outputting a 15 x 10 cm photo from a computer takes 18 seconds. Printing the same picture from a Galaxy Young mobile phone lasts only 1 second longer. All these are very good performance indicators.
Print quality is above average. The text is clear, the letters are filled in black. Grayscale is smooth, although some tones, representing different colors, are difficult to distinguish. Photos are surprisingly well reproduced, although patches of sky and sea are marked by thin stripes.
The replacement cartridge contains toner and a drum, but its capacity allows you to print only 1000 pages, which, compared with competitors, increases the cost of the page.
Economy Modes
The Eco MFP Samsung M2070 MFP Eco Mode is designed to save on supplies and offers a range of options that include the use of standard or advanced printing, gray print, and the mode of ignoring images, drawings, and short lines.
A preview of the document provides the opportunity to make additional adjustments. The text in MS Word format, consisting of 554 words, showed a speed of 23 ppm in standard mode and 21 ppm in advanced mode. According to users, in addition to a slight darkening of the text in normal mode, they could not detect any significant differences in the quality of the documents.
The 2-in-1 and Brochure options allow you to save paper, while the printer does all the work of composing the text on its own. There is a slight decrease in print speed, but nothing extraordinary happens - only the font size is reduced so that the text can fit on the page.
Pros and cons
Among the advantages of the model, users call a single cartridge (drum plus toner), small size, fast WPS-connection. Owners are dissatisfied with the lack of automatic two - sided printing, the lack of a tray cover, and also the low cartridge resource.
