University of Lodz: description, history and year of foundation, faculties, photos and reviews

The official year of foundation of the University of Lodz is considered to be 1945, but S. Yu. Witte justified the need for a higher technical school in Lodz in 1863. For a long time, the project could not be realized, the university began to accept applicants only after the Second World War. Today, this educational institution is one of the largest polytechnic universities in Europe, where up to 20 thousand students from many countries of the world study annually.

Russian idea

In the second half of the 20th century, the city of Lodz became one of the centers of intensive development of the textile industry. To provide enterprises with professional personnel in 1863, S. Yu. Witte, at that time - General Director of the State Committee for Education, proposed the creation of a polytechnic university in the city. For the organization of the educational complex, a land area was allocated, a competition for projects of future buildings was announced.

It was planned that classes will begin in 1865, they will be held in temporarily leased premises, pending the completion of the entire town. In Lodz, they invited lecturers, purchased equipment, textbooks and textbooks, wrote the Statute of the future educational institution. But the opening of the University of Lodz did not take place - the idea was not supported by the king.

Lodz University

The desire to establish a technical university did not leave the industrialists and the intelligentsia of the city, there was an urgent need for the implementation of the project. In 1876, the City Council sent a petition to the governor asking for support in opening an educational institution. An initiative group of large private industrialists jointly took out a loan from the bank, premises for classes were found, but the governor also did not give his consent. The next attempt to open a university took place after the declaration of independence of Poland in 1921. This time, the government of the young state decided that the project does not bring benefits.

After the war

It was possible to realize the desire to create the University of Lodz only at the end of the Second World War. The practical side of the organization of the university was taken up by the professor of the University of Warsaw B. Stefanovsky, he appeared in Lodz on May 8, 1945 and immediately got down to business.

The basis of the complex of university buildings, became the buildings of the former Rosenblatt factory, successfully located near the central part of the city. Reviews

There are not many reviews about Lodz University. Students write about what is interesting to learn, the educational system stimulates creativity in any subject. When preparing for presentations or seminars, you must not only rely on the lectures of the teacher, but also take time to independently search for additional information.

Many noted that they learned to quickly concentrate, isolate the main problems and quickly make the right decisions - this skill was perfected at the University of Lodz in communication with teachers.

Student life reviews vary depending on the amount of time spent at the University of Lodz. Photos of graduates are filled with respect for the city and the university. For the first time, Russian students are very skeptical - the city is small, it has very little entertainment and interesting places.

The rooms in the hostel are very small, however, this meager living space has to be shared with a neighbor. With a poor knowledge of the language, it is almost impossible to communicate with anyone outside the university. But if you manage to study safely for at least one year, your attitude towards Poland and the city will change for the better. The local flavor is becoming interesting, knowledge of the language allows better understanding of local residents, friends appear. With a diploma, many decide to stay to live and work in Poland, but leave Lodz for large cities.
