The graceful leap of a predator - this is the only way to describe the brainchild of Gorky auto builders. Indeed, not a car, but a beast. For the first time GAZ "Tiger" showed its bestial grin in 2001, at the international exhibition of military equipment in Abu Dhabi.
Under the hood of this monster is an almost six-liter Cummins B205 turbodiesel engine that delivers over 200 horsepower. It gives the car confidence in off-road conditions. GAZ "Tiger" is equipped with a six-speed gearbox. The cruising speed of the SUV is 140 kilometers per hour. The suspension is independent - it was borrowed almost without changes from the BTR-80. Increased ground clearance and automatic tire pressure regulation make the car super passable. The car can also be safely operated on public roads. There is a rear view camera, climate control. Although, of course, GAZ Tiger is, first of all, a military machine with all the ensuing circumstances. For example, glass does not fall - there are only loopholes for machine guns.
Steering is facilitated by power steering. For those who know how to handle a regular civilian car, driving a GAZ Tiger should not cause any problems. Just need to get used to the dimensions.
Despite the formidable appearance and not the most peaceful name, "Tiger" is very obedient to manage. Hydropneumatic brakes,
independent suspension and many more technical things make riding on it really easy.
Thanks to the huge suspension travel (as much as 300 millimeters), the car does not matter where or how you drive. Forcing various kinds of bumps, sides or other obstacles, the suspension will swing the Tiger slightly. GAZ in front is equipped with only two seats, between which there is a high transmission tunnel. It conveniently perched gear levers and handouts. The dashboard is organized in much the same way as in civilian cars - speedometer, tachometer, fuel and temperature sensors.
A "tiger" would not be a tiger without an armored skin. For comparison, an armored personnel carrier has its forehead armored in protection class 6, and its sides only in third. At the Tiger, the same circular armor corresponds to the fifth class of defense. The car holds the line from Kalashnikov (caliber 7.62 mm), and the windows and wheels are designed to absorb at least three hits.
The native element for a predator is, of course, wildlife. Our "Tiger" is no exception - sand dunes, snow - in any conditions, the beast tamed in Nizhny Novgorod feels at home. Tigers are not afraid of dirt - thanks to the special suspension design, the car feels calm in the swamp, and can also overcome a ford one and a half meters deep.
Immediately after appearing in public, many enthusiasts began to compare GAZ Tiger with the American Hammer. There is certainly an external resemblance. The angular body, placed along the edges of the wheel, small windows - this is after all a portrait of the vast majority of army SUVs.
