Few people know that in the rules of the road there is such a thing as a "road with reverse traffic." Not all Russian car owners have encountered this phenomenon in practice. And all because today the reverse movement is constantly present only on the roads of Moscow and St. Petersburg. However, it will not hurt any driver to get acquainted with this concept in more detail and how things are on the roads with reverse traffic. For increasingly, the local government begins to think about what a good thing it is. The main idea here is that with proper use, reverse traffic on the road can significantly reduce the time it usually takes to stand in numerous traffic jams.
Roads with this type of traffic differ from ordinary tracks in the presence of special reversible lanes. These are carriageways, the direction of movement of which, if necessary, can be reversed. In this case, it all depends on the degree of traffic load in one direction or another. The reverse movement is regulated by special traffic lights that are installed directly above the strip itself.
To distinguish such a lane from all others, it should be remembered that most roads with reverse traffic have only one or two reverse lanes located in the center of the carriageway. In addition, such stripes are always indicated by special marking, which is an intermittent double line. The length of the solid part of this line is three times longer than the interval between the strokes.
In addition, it is important to know that no special road signs are currently provided to indicate that the road is reversing. There is a sign that designates a road of this type, but it is only possible to judge by exactly which lanes this movement is taking place.
Reverse traffic lights do not indicate lanes and are necessary only to regulate the order of movement. This kind of movement is allowed when the green signal is on above the corresponding lane, and it is forbidden when the red signal is on.
As an example of the use of reverse traffic, one can consider a fairly standard situation for any large city, when on Friday evening most cars move out of the city, and on Sunday evening most of the vehicles move, conversely, to the center of the metropolis. In the first case, the reverse traffic lane will work in the direction “from the city”, and in the second - “to the city”. In addition, the familiar problem of traffic jams during peak hours can be considered an example. In the morning, traffic jams are often directed towards the center, and in the evening - vice versa. For such roads, reverse traffic is a real salvation, because it is here that it is best "acclimatized", increasing the
road capacity many times and reducing the likelihood of multi-kilometer traffic jams. A very
