Niche in the interior wall: we hide furniture, arrange an exhibition

Not so long ago, the presence of a niche in the apartment gave it a certain flaw in the eyes of the tenants, whether it was the result of features of the design of the house or an element of laying in the walls of utilities. This annoying hindrance in the arrangement generally looked ridiculous. Today, the niche in the interior wall is a squeak of designer fashion, and it is conceived even at the stage of housing design .

How to create a niche in the wall
The niche itself cannot be called anything new. Thousands of years ago, in mud houses right in the wall, they made a notch-shelf in which all utensils were housed. Functionality was replaced by exposure in ancient Greece: classic antique sculptures were placed in pre-planned niches. And in medieval castles the niches were occupied by the knightly armor guarding the owner’s peace.

In modern houses and apartments, if there is no niche in the wall of the interior, it can be organized using drywall. As before, according to their purpose, they are divided into two types: decorative and functional.

You won’t have to think about how to create a niche in the wall, if it is decorative. In the simplest version, it will be just a shelf for little things. The recess looks much more beautiful if you place in it a suitable picture, family photographs, beautiful figurines, a collection of souvenirs or a set of favorite trinkets. A big plus of decorative niches is that their content can be changed depending on the mood and preferences.

With an aquarium in such a niche, the situation is more complicated. Of course, the temptation to become the owner of a beautiful and compact living corner is great. But you need to think over an additional place in advance for maintaining the aquarium, placing its equipment, and eliminating the loss of condensation on the walls of the niche.

Niche in the interior wall
The functional niche in the interior wall serves other purposes: it places furniture, built-in household appliances, television, video and audio equipment. Such a niche, as a rule, has a considerable depth, therefore, it is recommended to equip it in large and spacious rooms, where centimeters "eaten" by a plasterboard wall will not be so noticeable.

The design of the niche in the wall can be symmetrical and asymmetric. In the first case, the interior is balanced and harmonized, but for this it will be necessary to strictly observe the rule of symmetry and arrange niches that are equally identical in geometric shape and size. In the second case, asymmetry gives the interior liveliness and dynamics; niches are located in one wall or in walls, free from use.

It is worth carefully considering the kind of highlighting of each niche. It may not be accented, soft, diffused. Or pinpoint, turning a niche item into an exhibit. In this case, products made of bright and shiny metal, crystal, etc. look very advantageous.

Another practical solution worth mentioning: a niche in the wall of the interior of the bathroom, designed for a shower. Its comfortable size should be larger than the size of the pallet - 110x110 cm. At the same time, care must be taken to protect the niche walls from moisture - they will play the role of the walls of the shower. At least another 10 cm will need to be allocated for the installation of glass doors.

Niche design in the wall
In a nicely furnished niche you can place almost anything you want: a washing machine with a laundry basket and an ironing board, a wardrobe, bookshelves, cabinets with kitchen utensils and spices, a folding cupboard for shoes, a storage room for firewood, a workplace with a computer and even a sleeping corner.

A niche is a unique decorative element that enlivens and transforms any interior: it loses its monotony, the style of the room and its geometry change. A luxurious idea that will add to your home attractiveness and personality!
