One of the city's most respected educational institutions for a long time is the Pinsk College of Medicine, which has always participated in the development of medicine and healthcare in all areas of the region. The whole history of Belarus of the twentieth century was reflected in the formation of this institution, since all the events that took place here could not but leave a mark in his life.
Near Poland
The First World War almost completely destroyed the Pinsk region occupied by Polish troops. The impoverished population did not have the most basic sanitary conditions, so entire families mowed the infection. The government was not able to provide residents with even food and clothing, and there was no talk of medical care at all. There were almost no doctors, paramedics either, few hospitals, and there were never any places in them, despite the fact that the treatment was incredibly expensive.
Even infectious patients were forced to stay at home and often died. There was one epidemic after another in the region, and their scale increased every year. Doctors, even those who worked tirelessly, had to put up with the current state of things, and often purely philosophically explained the situation with high mortality by the ethnographic features of the area.
Soviet authority
Social conditions did not improve until the advent of Soviet power. Only then, medical care became not only publicly available, but also was able to end the epidemic. There were not enough medical workers of all levels and all specialties, especially midwives, paramedics and nurses. For training, the obstetric and feldsher school was opened, in the future - Pinsk College of Medicine.
The year 1940 was on, and the future seemed cloudless in these plagued lands. But the Second World War broke out, which once again destroyed the completely just settled life of the population. Cities and villages lay in ruins, people were exhausted, and few of them remained. And together with the whole country, the region began its revival. All the teachers and all college students, who by 1941 there were only a few dozen people, defended their homeland - someone in the Red Army, the rest in partisan detachments. How many wounded these young undereducated nurses were able to save! And how many of them died ...
Exemption
In August 1944, the restored medical school began work again. First, with one group of first-year students, and in 1945 they scored two more, one of which was joined by those who returned from the fronts to continue their studies. The room had to be shared with a pedagogical school, which also already functioned.
But already in 1946, the Pinsk Medical College moved to the premises of secondary school No. 9. This was not the last relocation. Only in 195 m was it possible to settle in a separate building on the street of the Irkutsk-Pinsk Division, and in 1961 the educational institution found its permanent shelter on Rokossovsky Street, 6. From the first post-war days, the Pinsk Medical College had its own dormitory.
Study conditions
Until 1949, working and studying conditions were difficult: there weren’t enough rooms, visual aids and textbooks were destroyed by the war, teachers were in short supply, but practical training for future paramedics, midwives and medical sisters was in short supply: the whole Pinsk regional hospital was in their plus maternity hospital. The first graduation took place in 1947, thirty-three people received diplomas of professional education and were immediately sent to the most difficult areas in the region.
Schoolchildren who chose medicine as their profession already in high school knew where to go, very good fame was going on about the school from the very beginning. The following issues have already been distributed more widely - to Brest and the region, even to other republics. The team of teachers gradually developed very successfully, all were creative and dedicated people. Staying on the Hall of Fame in the city of their portraits never stopped. And in 1987, in the socialist competition among medical schools of the entire Soviet Union, it was the Pinsk State Medical College that won and was awarded the Red Banner.
Rename History
Over the many years of the Pinsk Medical School’s work, graduates have left its walls 57 times, only eleven thousand specialists have been involved in caring for the health of their fellow citizens. As a result of the transformation, the medical school turned into the Pinsk State Medical College on the orders of the Minister of Health of Belarus only in 2001. And during this time, the institution managed to train 1123 more specialists.
Before eleventh graders of Pinsk who wished to become doctors, now the question does not arise - where to go, since the best educational institution is nearby. The main bases for practical exercises have become much more: a children's hospital, also with a clinic, a maternity hospital, a sanitary and epidemiological station, and a leather dispensary have been added to the Pinsk Central Hospital with its outpatient clinic.
Educational work
Colleges after grade 11 are currently available to applicants in all their diversity: in addition to medical ones, they are also for those who have chosen any other type of activity - from art and legal colleges to engineering and technological ones. And future physicians also have a wide choice: only in Minsk there are several, and in every fairly large city they are present. But why go somewhere if the eleventh-grader lives in the same city as the Pinsk Medical College?
Passing points here, however, are quite high, but if desired, all difficulties can be overcome. Especially if students are waiting for interesting programs on the same "Healthcare" profile as everywhere else. Here they not only receive specialized secondary medical education, but also improve their qualifications, moreover, retraining of managers and specialists is carried out according to educational standards adopted in the republic. The programs here are not only educational, but also educational. The college is managed by the public health department of the Brest Regional Executive Committee.
College structure
The units providing educational activities in the college are as follows:
- full-time secondary special education, specialty "General Medicine";
- full-time secondary specialized education, specialty "Nursing";
- Department for retraining executives and professional development of specialists (secondary specialized education).
Full-time education prepares students for secondary vocational medical education programs in the specialties: "General Medicine", "Medical and Diagnostic Case", "Nursing". Qualifications of the medical department: assistant obstetrician, doctor's assistant (outpatient care). Specialists of the diagnostic department qualify as a paramedic, and future nurses are trained in nursing. Applicants to medical colleges after grade 11 will have fewer general subjects, and they will have more time left for self-study and rest.
Advice for applicants
Groups are completed annually in August, so almost all summer an applicant can devote to choosing a college and preparing for entrance examinations. The enrollment procedure is formalized by the relevant order of the college director after receiving decisions of the admissions committee and after concluding an agreement with the applicant. Usually in the group of full-time education up to thirty students.
Teachers
The staffing potential of the college is very high and is able to provide quality training for specialists. Most of the teachers have vast pedagogical and practical experience, but there are also beginners who traditionally support the continuity in the cooperation of colleagues of the educational institution. Of the forty-seven full-time teachers, twenty have the highest qualification category, a very high indicator. The teaching of each discipline is supported by higher basic education and corresponds to the profile.
Traditionally, former college students with relevant higher education come to teaching. Twenty educators were formerly graduates of this college. The professional competence of the teaching staff is enhanced through conferences, cycle commissions and other forms of work. All this helps to improve the quality of education of college students. College graduates demonstrate a high level of knowledge and practical skills, they are known by Pinsk, the Brest region and many other regions.
Equipment
The college pays special attention to modern technologies and improving the educational process: a variety of techniques are used, computer programs of the latest designs are used, the test environment is “ten-point monitoring”, “Paragraph: College XXI” is a software and technology network complex, software IPS “Etalon”, “Social monitoring ", multimedia presentations," Psychological monitoring "and much more. To comprehensively deepen knowledge and improve practical skills, develop creative abilities and join medical science, many elective classes are held at the college.
