The French auto concern Renault 13 years ago released the Scenic compact van, which rightfully received the title of one of the most futuristic cars. After some time, the second version was released - "Renault Scenic 2", which is more suitable for measured trips out of town by a company or family and to those car owners who value comfort and practicality in cars more.
Engine range
The Renault Scenic range of powertrains includes both gasoline and diesel engines ranging in volume from 1.4 to 2 liters and power from 98 to 165 horsepower. All engines are equipped with a timing belt drive, the replacement of which is carried out every 60 thousand mileage. It is better to replace timing elements with "Renault Scenic 2" only in car services, since the pulley with keyless fit, respectively, with insufficient tightening of the fixing bolt, the pulley is rotated, which leads to a collision of the valves with the pistons. The life of the crankshaft damper pulley is 150-200 thousand kilometers. The owners of Renault Scenic 2 note that with problems with the damper, rattle and rattle appear in the engine area, which disappear when the clutch pedal is squeezed. Together with the timing belt, it is advised to change the pump, since its body extremely rarely withstands more than 80 thousand mileage. Quite often, owners of Renault Scenic are faced with the main problem of engines - a malfunction of the cooling system, namely, a fan resistor.

Engine problems
Mounted on a Renault Scenic 2 1.5-liter gasoline engine is considered one of the most common. The weak point of the motor is considered to be the phase regulator - it is not particularly reliable: a crack appears during the start of a cold engine, and besides, it can be started not the first time.
The two-liter power unit is not without such problems with the phase regulator, in addition, owners often note that the operation of the motor is accompanied by an unpleasant squeak. The reason for this soundtrack lies in the features of the membrane of the ventilation system of crankcase gases. The ignition coils on both engines are renowned for their unreliability.
The main reason for stopping the engine starting is the oxidation of the crankshaft sensor contacts or a change in the freon pressure conditioning system. Both power units are not particularly fond of economical driving, which can lead to carbon deposits on spark plugs.
Diesel engines
Renault Scenic with this type of power units was not officially delivered to the Russian market, however, you can find models brought in through outbidding. In Europe, such cars are sold with mileage of 150 thousand kilometers or more, while in the domestic secondary market their mileage is 100-120 thousand kilometers. The Scenic service interval in Europe is 20-25 thousand kilometers, which negatively affects the resource of the power unit. For example, 1.5 Renault Scenic 2 diesel engine after 150-200 thousand kilometers starts to turn brass liners, which is accompanied by a knock during cold start and increase in speed. To avoid such troubles, experts advise changing the liners after 150 thousand kilometers.
A similar ailment is facing a turbocharged DCI diesel Renault Scenic 2 with a volume of 1.9 liters. Unlike the first engine, this problem appears on it only after 250 thousand kilometers. With proper operation, a turbocharger can last more than 200 thousand kilometers. Different fuel systems were installed on Scenic depending on the vehicleโs production years: for example, Delphi was installed on the model until 2006, Siemens was installed on the car since 2006, and the most reliable of all was installed on the Renault Scenic 2 1.5 DCI model - Bosch
Transmission
Renault Scenic 2 was equipped with only two types of transmissions - five- and six-speed manual transmissions and four-speed DP0 automation, which was equipped only with gasoline engines. A mechanical transmission practically does not cause any inconvenience to car owners, but despite this, some drivers note that the most common ailment is a leak of engine oil at the junction of the clutch housing and the gearbox itself, but the problem is extremely rare. Replacing the clutch kit can eliminate the unpleasant twitching of the Renault Scene 2 at the beginning of the movement.
Much more problems were with automatic transmission, especially on cars of the first years of release. The main malfunctions appear after 70-90 thousand kilometers, and they appear in the twitching of a car. In case of untimely contacting the service center, the gearbox goes into emergency operation. Upon reaching 120 thousand mileage, problems with the Renault Scenic 2 machine, released after 2006, begin.
Driving performance
The Renault Scenic suspension is presented by the front classic MacPherson and the rear semi-independent beam and provides a very comfortable and smooth ride. The weak point of first-generation cars is the chassis: in particular, the front suspension wheel bearings fail after 15-30 thousand kilometers. Carried out restyling improved the situation, but not much: the working life of bearings increased to 70-90 thousand kilometers.
The service life of the stabilizer struts is 80 thousand kilometers, bushings - 120 thousand. With proper operation and proper maintenance, thrust bearings and shock absorbers serve about 100-120 thousand kilometers, levers and silent blocks - 150 thousand.
Despite the fact that the rear suspension of the Renault Scenic 2 is considered unkillable, after 100 thousand kilometers it is often necessary to replace silent blocks, which change only with the beam. The shock absorber springs fail after 200 thousand kilometers - deformation of the spring turns.
Steering
The weak point of the Renault Scenic steering is the right-hand side of the rack, which breaks very quickly, which is accompanied by the appearance of a knock in the front of the car while moving on an uneven track. The proprietary steering tips also do not differ in particular reliability and performance - after 40-50 thousand kilometers they fail.
There may be problems with the brake system, namely, with the proper operation of the parking brake due to pads that do not completely extend from the disk. The reason lies in the cable becoming sour or broken on the dual relay control board.
