Story

Since February 2008, services have been held in a temporary temple. At the same time, the main building was completed. In August 2011, the Metropolitan of Voronezh and Borisoglebsky Sergius consecrated the crosses and domes of the newly-built Ascension Church. The first Divine Liturgy was held at Christmas in 2012. At that time the church still lacked an iconostasis.

Nowadays

Today, the church greets its parishioners with the dazzling brilliance of crosses and a truly unique bell ringing, which residents of the microdistrict have long been accustomed to. Some explain the special melody of the chime by the specificity of the selection of bells, others by the skill of the bell-ringer, and others by the wooden walls and ceilings of the church and its location: the cathedral building is installed on an open area and, as it were, opens its arms to meet the guests. The voices of the bells of the temple seem to many truly flying, drowning the ordinary hum of the millionth megalopolis.

Architecture

The Ascension Church, located in the Central District of Voronezh, is one of the finest examples of Russian architecture. For the Voronezh region, it is truly unique. It is known that wooden temple-building is an ancient, primordially Russian tradition. The building of the Church of the Ascension in Voronezh is made in the Novgorod architectural style. The basement of the temple is made of stone, a wooden “four-block” log cabin, created by the masters of the Arkhangelsk region in the shape of an ark, is placed above it. The church is crowned with an ensemble of five domes decorated with gilded crosses. The dome of the vault rises significantly (“ascends”) over others, which, apparently, underlines the name of the church. The domes are made of aspen, due to which, according to experts, over time they will gain strength akin to stone.

The belfry of the temple.

The temple complex consists of three separate buildings. In the center is located, in fact, the temple building itself. To the west of it is a building that houses a bell tower, cells of priests and a candle shop. The bell tower is not a traditional tower crowned with a cross, but a belfry, covered with a roof (four-pitched), on the crossbar of which bells are suspended in one row. The complex completes the presence of a gazebo installed in front of the temple, made in the same architectural style as other buildings. It is used to organize various social events and festive meals, in which a large number of people can take part. The lower chapel of the church is consecrated in honor of St. Sergius, the upper - in honor of the Ascension of the Lord.

In the lower aisle are the icons of the Mother of God painted on Athos - “Joy or Consolation” and “The Tsaritsa”. All images are made in strict accordance with the canonical style. The author of several images is the nun Anna (Petrova), who died in 2013, about which a documentary was recently shot. The authors of other icons are Voronezh and capital masters.
