The endometrium is a mucous membrane that undergoes changes every month. It depends on the phase of the menstruation cycle. If a woman becomes pregnant, the body begins to secrete hormones that prevent the separation of the endometrium from the walls of the uterus. This is necessary so that the fetal egg can attach to the wall of the uterus and begin its development. In the first weeks of pregnancy, it is from the endometrium that the embryo receives the necessary nutrition.
Myometrium is the muscular membrane, the main component of the walls of the uterus. The size of the organ during pregnancy varies due to this particular part of the membrane. The myometrium is a collection of muscle fibers that increases due to the multiplication of myocytes (muscle cells), as a result, the uterus lengthens by 10 times and thickens to 4-5 cm. Wall compaction occurs in the first half of pregnancy, then the uterus begins to grow, stretching, and to complete uterine wall in thickness have only 0.5-1 cm.
Where is the cervix?
