Fans of tuning cars know that the BPAN is a car movement that stands for "No Landing Auto No". The group consists mainly of young people who prefer a low landing. The attitude towards the BPAN is completely different: someone responds positively to such a movement, someone is categorically against the bodies “lying on the ground”, and the third does not care if they exist or not. Where did the fashion for low cars come from and how do the inspectors of the traffic police relate to this?
BPAN - what is it? Development of car traffic
The low landing fashion appeared a long time ago. As a direction of tuning, the BPAN has existed since the 30s of the last century. There was a movement in the USA, even a subculture was created, which was called "Pachucos". Such tuning was mainly resorted to by illegal Americans who want to stand out from the general stream of cars. Mexican immigrants in order to reduce clearance truncated springs or springs, removing exhaust pipes on the sides, and also cut the bonnet.
The second wave of popularity of the lowered suspension was already in the 1960s, and again this happened in America. Thus, US motorists were nostalgic for the old days. There were even those who did not risk cutting iron - instead, they loaded heavy bags into their pickups.
In Russia for a long time they did not know that it was a BPAN. The wave of popularity of reduced clearance in the 1990s swept only Europe and the countries of Asia, and in our country the subculture really became such only in 2010. But it quickly gained popularity and continues to attract young people to this day.
What is the meaning of a low landing?
Like any other type of tuning, reduced ground clearance is created for beauty. True, not everyone understands this "beauty". Like Hispanics in the 1930s, Russian boys and girls underestimated the landing of a car just to improve its appearance. Of course, everyone has their own opinion on this matter, but for BPANovtsev it looks that way.
How do members of the “No Landing Auto No” movement underestimate their cars?
There are 3 options for lowering the suspension. Any of the methods described below requires replacing the wheels on models with a smaller radius.
- Cutting springs. This method is the simplest and cheapest, but not the best in terms of the safety of the chassis of the car. After cutting 2-3 turns, the load on the racks significantly increases, which subsequently can lead to deformation of the body.
- Replacing racks with shortened ones. But here there is a minus - such racks are more rigid, which also adversely affects some elements of the chassis of the machine.
- Air suspension This is the most reasonable way to enter the BPAN subculture in the Russian Federation, if the soul requires it. Radical tuning in the form of installing an air suspension is an expensive option, but it allows you to control the clearance without leaving the passenger compartment. However, it must be remembered that the air suspension is an unreliable and complex system that simply will not survive on our roads - it will break down in the near future.

Here, special attention should be paid to traffic safety. Traffic police do not get tired of saying that the BPAN is a dangerous type of tuning, and the drivers of "planted" cars are the main threat on the city roads. Firstly, as already mentioned above, the use of shortened racks or cutting them into a couple of turns makes the undercarriage unusable. At any moment, one of its elements may fail, which will lead to a car breakdown, and it can happen anytime: on the highway, on the city avenue, in the yards of multi-storey buildings. And then an accident can not be avoided.
Secondly, the air suspension used as tuning for supporters of the “No Landing Auto No” movement is also an unreliable, dangerously dangerous element. In addition, it is now prohibited (the law on the prohibition of the operation of a vehicle, the design of which was made any changes inconsistent with the traffic police).
Thirdly, each participant in the so-called BezPosadki-Avto.Net must have certain skills in driving a car with reduced clearance. Again, in order to maintain safe traffic on the roads.
As for the traffic police, they, like many motorists, have a negative attitude towards “planted” cars. Moreover, the inspector has the right to fine and remove numbers from the vehicle if the clearance for measurements is less than indicated in the technical passport. Such a law has been in force since June 2014.
Lovers and opponents of the BPAN automobile movement in the Russian Federation since 2010 have not been tired of arguing about whether this is good or bad. But if the former speak about the aesthetic side, the latter give quite reasonable arguments about the safety of understated cars on the roads. And we can agree with them, because often these are the cars that are responsible for the accident.
