Sooner or later, every car owner asks the question: why do the brakes creak when braking? This sound can often be heard in traffic jams. Moreover, even on new machines, brakes sometimes creak. What to do in this case? Let's try to figure it out.
Where does the creak come from?
To begin, let's figure out the device of the brake system. Its main working component is a block. It is she who creates the braking force by interacting with the disk. Outwardly, it is a metal case with friction material fixed to it . The latter is made of a complex composition, which includes:
- Ceramics.
- Reinforcing elements.
- Rubber (synthetic).
- Organic and mineral fillers.
Often the answer to the question of why the brakes creak when braking is hidden in the pads. Perhaps it turned out to be defective or of poor quality, or one of the above components is not compatible with the material of the disc, which causes a characteristic sound.
Weather
One of the common reasons why brakes creak when braking is high humidity. Often during rain, condensation accumulates on the surface of these elements. Because of this, there is a creak of brakes.
Reasons may also be hidden in the caliper itself. The creak appears as a result of vibration of the pads about it. In the cabin you can hear not only sound, but also tapping, flowing into vibration. There is a
knock when braking. If these symptoms occur after a recent
replacement of the pads, calipers are likely to have loosened due to temperature fluctuations. To do this, use a hex wrench to tighten the mounting bolt. If you look at it directly (from the street), it is located on the inside. After that, the problem disappears.
How to eliminate sounds
If the problem is poor-quality material or its incompatibility with the disk, there is only one way out - replacing the pads with new ones. Do not save and buy cheap analogues. Having saved on cheap pads, โas a giftโ you will get an unending creak, and possibly tapping. However, the latter occur even if there are scoring on the disk itself.
The smallest millimeter can create just an incredible knock when braking - the wheel speed and the mass of the car will do the trick. The block simply crumbles, fairly patting the nerves of the car owner. And even new branding elements will not save. In this situation, you need a disk replacement. To avoid discrepancies, pads and disc should be purchased from the same manufacturer.
Replacement did not help
Motorists complain that even after this operation, the problem persists. The drive is in normal condition; there is no knock when braking. How to be The fact is that after installing new blocks, they need time to adapt (running in). This process is not more than 400 kilometers. At the same time, it is recommended to perform active and intensive braking (without prejudice to overheating of the system).
If this also doesnโt help, remove the wheel and disassemble the caliper, possibly dirt has got inside it, which is why the whole problem arises. Although the design of the caliper is such that dust hardly penetrates there. But this factor should not be excluded.
By the way, on some cars antiskrip plates are already used from the factory. They are small metal plates that, by their thickness, eliminate the existing gap between the block and the caliper at the point of contact.
Quick drying
If creaking occurs in rainy weather, it is recommended to dry the brakes. This is done very simply - at speed you need to press the pedal several times. Thus, the temperature on the disk will increase, and all the condensate will disappear.
Anti-crease paste
So that the car owner does not wonder why the brakes creak when braking, experts recommend using special pastes when installing new pads. This composition must be applied to the end and back of the metal plate. It is forbidden to apply paste on the working surface of the disk or pads.
Brake pressure regulator
This element is used to distribute the braking forces between the front and rear wheels of the car. When you press the pedal, the main load falls on the front pads. In bad weather, in this situation, the car will simply lose control. The brake pressure regulator distributes the load in such a way that all 4 wheels stop with uniform force.
If this element is excluded from the design, the wheels are locked as follows: first the rear brakes, then the front brakes. In snow or rain, such a car can go on a skid - it will be uncontrollable. The absence of a regulator significantly affects not only overall safety, but also the wear of the pads, which will occur unevenly.
How to replace the pads?
To do this, we need a set of tools: a jack, a wheel wrench for unscrewing wheel bolts, hexagons and a hammer with a screwdriver.
First, the bolts break down and that part of the car rises, from the side of which the pads will change. Having removed the wheel, visually assess the condition of brake hoses, anthers and pipelines. They must not have any drips or deform. If there is a crack on the hose, it must be replaced - for a long time such a part will not last. How much are brake pads? They can be purchased at a price of 1000 rubles per set (4 - on two front calipers).

So, first you need to squeeze the brake piston using a thin lever. Next, the caliper bracket bolts are unscrewed. On some cars it is not fixed, then just remove it by hand. Next, it is necessary to knock out the guide pins. This can be done by attaching a screwdriver or stud to them (long bolt of smaller diameter). By hammer blows we slowly move the upper and lower pin from its place. The support can be pushed to the side and the pads can be removed. We put new ones in their place. Do not forget to process metal plates with a special paste. Assemble in the reverse order.
Should I pump it later?
If the brake hoses are not removed, this operation is not necessary. Air will not enter the system during pad replacement. By the way, the liquid itself (due to its ability to absorb moisture) must be changed every 2 years or 60 thousand kilometers.
So, we found out how much brake pads cost and why they creak. As you can see, changing them yourself is quite possible. The cost of similar work at the service station is 1000-1200 rubles (almost the price of new pads).
