At an auto show in Geneva in 1997, the Opel Vectra Signum was presented as a concept car, which mass production, according to company experts, was not planned. The car was created to demonstrate and test new technical solutions. The interior and exterior of the Opel Vectra C Signum became one of the topics discussed: the dashboard was represented by a huge flat screen with four separate displays, and 19-inch wheels were installed as “shoes” on the model.
In 2001, the second generation of Signum was demonstrated in Frankfurt. Generation has become the same concept as the previous model, embodying the main creative ideas of the company. Series production of the second generation was never launched, since the main goal was to test the new platform created by GM, conduct technical tests of the car and study the reaction of the public.
Series Production and Exterior Signum III
In 2003, the Opel auto concern introduced the front-wheel drive business-class model Opel Signum, which was put into mass production. For a car positioned as a business model, it had a very unusual exterior, combining the features of a five-door hatchback and station wagon. However, it was thanks to the shape of the body in the cabin that there was enough free space for passengers.
The third generation of the Opel Signum received a trapezoidal false radiator grille and lower air intakes. The round fog lights are decorated with chrome trim.
Interior
The key to a spacious, spacious and comfortable interior was the impressive dimensions of the Opel Signum. The interior space can be transformed to the individual preferences of passengers and the driver. The front seats allow people of any complexion to accommodate with convenience and comfort. The design of the seats is equipped with a unique FlexSpace system that provides a wide range of settings and an impressive free legroom for passengers.
The familiar rear sofa in the Opel Signum is replaced by two full seats with a wide range of adjustments. Between them is a small armchair that can be used as a fairly comfortable small table. Instead of the middle seat, the multifunctional Travel Assistant console is installed. Trunk volume varies from 455 to 1410 liters, depending on the configuration of the cabin.
Specifications
The Opel Signum has a wide range of powertrains. Gasoline engines of 1.8, 2 and 2.2 liters were equipped with a direct fuel injection system, and diesel turbocharged engines of 2, 2.2 and 3 liters with a similar direct injection system. Together with the power units there is a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic transmission ActiveSelect with manual shift mode.
Russian dealers offer only two versions of the Opel Signum with 155-horsepower gasoline engines of 2.2 liters and 3.2 liters.
Security
Opel Signum has a rich safety package, including side and front airbags and window blinds for front and rear passengers. The IDS interactive driving system provides a high level of ride comfort and safety. Opel Signum is equipped with a pedal disconnect system, active rear seat head restraints and three-point seat belts with pretensioners, height adjustment of the upper mounts and tension limiters.

In the basic configuration, Opel Signum is equipped with air conditioning, a central locking system with remote control, full-size side and front airbags, power windows for all doors, active head restraints for all seats and full-size window curtains to protect passengers during a frontal collision.
The unique Adaptive Forward Lighting system consists of bi-xenon optics with a headlight radius of 15 degrees and additional lights that rotate 90 degrees. The system is activated at a speed of 50 km / h or more and serves to illuminate blind turns and improve visibility in the dark.
