Color "quartz": banal routine or practical minimalism?

For some car owners, the color of the car does not matter; for others, the opposite is decisive. Most buyers believe that color is not the most important, but at the same time they try to choose a more practical option and look good on the selected model.

In principle, all the shades in which the car is painted can be divided into light, dark, gray and bright. But the most interesting thing happens if you choose a color by name. Some manufacturers write them traditionally: “gray”, “black”, etc. And there are those who give each of the shades their own name: “blue night”, “rhapsody” or “Inca gold”. So it is sometimes very difficult for a customer to imagine how, for example, the color “quartz” will look.

Of course, choosing a car for yourself, it is advisable to watch it “live”, but, unfortunately, such an opportunity does not always exist, so the client has to connect his imagination. AvtoVAZ has a particularly stormy fantasy in this direction; they are the ones who sell “pearls”, “nifertiti” and “fraconia”. If we consider the color “quartz”, then in essence it is dark gray and almost all manufacturers use it, they just call it differently. The buyer can, of course, be advised to familiarize himself with the catalog in order to make a choice, but he can give only an approximate idea of how the shade will look on the metal.

As for the gray variations, such as quartz, this color seems banal and boring to many, but he also has his fans. They argue their choice mainly with practicality - the cars get dirty less (and the dirt on them, in fact, is not noticeable), they are less noticeable (including to law enforcement bodies and envious neighbors).

On the other hand, if a car is not noticeable on the road, then it is dangerous to ride on it. According to statistics, “asphalt” color cars get into accidents much more often than bright or light ones, especially in the evening, when the lighting is not on yet, but it is already getting dark. A bright car is hard not to notice on the road in any weather and around the clock. Light can be invisible only in winter, when there is a lot of snow, but if the car has the color “quartz”, it is hard to see even on dry asphalt on a sunny day.

Psychologists have a theory about this. Firstly, they argue that gray and its shades are preferred by people who are calm and balanced, but at the same time sometimes too pragmatic and somewhat boring. Pedestrians and other participants in the movement, the color “quartz” and the rest, from the same series, even if they see with their eyes, they are not perceived by the brain as moving objects, nor as cars, nor as potential danger.

As practice shows, advising a person what kind of car to choose and how it should look is completely useless, especially if he is confident, practical and pragmatic. But still it’s worth thinking about safety, choosing the color of the machine (“quartz” in this case is far from the best option).

If the purchase has already been made (or the choice is clear), then you need to at least predict the reaction of others. When moving in a gray car, it is better to stand out on the road, including, for example, the dimensions, and at the first twilight you should use the dipped headlights, without waiting until they are turned on by all participants in the movement.
