Do-it-yourself potato digger for a walk-behind tractor. Potato digger working principle

Kartofelekopalka to the walk-behind tractor is the hinged device and is used together with the walk-behind tractor. The effectiveness of her work is high. She is able to process not only the land, but also the field. Its main function is to separate the tubers from the soil with subsequent laying on the surface of the site.

The advantage of a DIY assembly

A self-assembled potato harvester for a walk-behind tractor has a very unified design and practicality in use. Most people resort to the use of garden equipment of Russian or foreign production. For example, a common model used in a suburban area is the Russian Neva walk-behind tractor. A do-it-yourself potato digger can also be harvested without special problems.

Types of potato diggers

There are two types of potato digger for a walk-behind tractor:

  • Unified design. Outwardly, it looks like a shovel without a handle. Steel bars are welded to it. The tip sticks into the ground and uproots the tubers. They shake off the metal rods and then appear on the surface. This is the easiest way to harvest. This design does not imply the inclusion of any complex parts and schemes, and losses during harvesting are very small.
  • Vibrating potato digger for a motor-block of a screen type. It is equipped with a coulter and grids for sifting on wheels. Tubers through the ploughshare fall on the grate and under the influence of vibration are sifted from the ground. Pure potatoes are in the soil. At the same time, the quality of cleaning is higher.

Many are interested in how to make a potato digger for a walk-behind tractor. To assemble such a configuration, instructions are required. It will be presented in this article.

What is needed to assemble a vibrating potato digger?

In principle, you can buy a factory analogue, but for an experienced owner to make such an adaptation is not difficult. At the same time, a home-made potato digger for a walk-behind tractor is in no way inferior in technical characteristics to the finished product and will save money. Device should have a small size. Its use will be convenient.

To build an ordinary structure you will need:

  • channel from metal;
  • opener, the basis of which is strong steel with a thickness of 5 mm (you can take a failed circular saw);
  • a metal plate for connecting the channel and the opener;
  • corners of iron, the size of which is 63x40 mm;
  • metal rods (usually 8 pieces are used).

The basis of the vibration unit is a metal welded frame.

The main components are:

  • frame;
  • suspension;
  • vertical rods with mounting devices (they are responsible for regulating the device).

What tools are used?

A DIY potato digger for a walk-behind tractor is made using tools. You should prepare:

  • grinder;
  • welding machine;
  • drill;
  • corner bar;
  • iron plate;
  • reinforced rods;
  • bolts
  • nuts.

Frame manufacturing

The frame is welded in accordance with certain rules.

First, a rectangle is welded for fastening. For this purpose, a square- shaped metal pipe is taken. Its length should be 4 m, and its width and height should be 4 cm. It is sawn into four parts. Two parts should be 120 cm and the other two 80 cm. Rectangles 120x80 cm are welded. It is advised to grind the edges of the part using a grinder so as not to injure your hands when processing metal during fastening of body kits.

Next, a jumper is welded. It will be needed to set traction and tilt control. She joins a quarter-length rectangle of a metal square. On the other side of the frame, two tubes are vertically welded, the diameter of which is 3 cm and the length is 15 cm. They should be located on the outside of the frame and fixed in the corner. These fasteners are required for a vertically located axle on which two wheels will be placed for support.

Using a drill, a hole with a diameter of 10 mm is drilled in each tube in any place (the same hole will be drilled on the wheel support for the stopper).

Vertical posts are welded to the frame from the jumper side. You should step back 5 cm from the end of the frame and weld a square of metal 30x30 mm perpendicularly on both sides. Its length should be 50 cm. You should retreat another 20 cm and weld the racks, the length of which is 40 cm, then deviate another 40 cm from them and weld the racks 30 cm long.

Externally, the resulting configuration will look like an inverted staircase. The ends of the rack are connected.

How to connect the ends of the racks?

Now you should start connecting the ends of the racks using a strip of metal, the thickness of which is 0.4 mm. At an angle of 45 ° below each rack, 40 cm long strips are welded. The ends of the strips are welded together. The design will look like a triangle.

Pitched board and railing

Vibrating potato digger for walk-behind tractor requires the presence of a pitched board and a rail. They make up the working part of the device. The function of the raal includes pulling potatoes out of the soil and feeding the tubers with the ground to a ramp board made of twigs. The first two racks, lowered from the frame (40 cm and 50 cm long) are used to fasten the digger.

How to weld a wound?

To make a wound, weld two holes for a bolt of size M12 in a sheet of metal 40x40 cm in size and 0.3 mm thick. Precisely such holes are made in racks. In this case, step back 50 mm from the bottom. The sheet is twisted tightly. High quality nuts and drill are used.

A sheet of the same size is welded on the back. Then another sheet of metal with a size of 70x30 cm and a thickness of 0.4 mm is used. It is butt welded with side sheets.

Sledgehammer hit the center. The metal should take the form of a cone. Pitched board is welded. Some ends of metal rods with a diameter of 10 mm (fittings are suitable) are soldered to the bottom of the shaft. The other ends extend beyond the bottom of the instrument. The length of the reinforcement should be 120 cm.

To ensure reinforcement that does not allow the rods to stagger in the air, a 30 cm long riser should be welded at the end of the frame. A square pipe is welded from one riser to another (you can use a bar to which the rods are welded). This achieves stability. About two-thirds of the length will come out. The edges of the rods should be left free. They will vibrate during the operation of the potato digger and provide the best tuber beating off the ground.

Why do you need traction for regulation?

They serve to collect potatoes after the rains have passed. The presence of these components contributes to the complexity of the design, so you should determine initially how much they are needed. The rods contribute to the regulation of the angle of inclination of the rods.

If they are still supposed to be installed, then they should be welded not to the risers 30 cm long, but to the rod. A second rod is welded to the first cross member of the frame. To reduce the angle of inclination, the rod should be unscrewed. She sticks out the stocks and lengthens.

If you use the device in dry soil, you can achieve an increase in the angle of ejection of tubers in order to improve their removal from the ground. To this end, the rods twist back.

It is better to use two rods in parallel so that the reinforcement does not stagger when digging.

Wheel making

The potato digger for the walk-behind tractor is assembled, it remains to attach wheels to it. You can use any wheel from a wheelbarrow with a load capacity of at least 100 kg.

An attachment in the shape of the letter ā€œGā€ is welded to each wheel. The best option would be if the wheels from the old car are equipped with an axle. A wheel with a 5 cm axis is cut off. Racks are attached to the axis. 10 mm holes are made in the racks every 4 cm. They perform a locking function.
