There are people who tend to be late for work and holiday. At the same time, they feel calm, convincing everyone that this is their character trait, so they will have to come to terms with it, as they themselves have long been reconciled and stopped overcoming this problem. Other people perceive being late for work as a disaster and suffer even from the thought that this could happen, punishing themselves with guilt, remorse, and emotional feelings in advance. The third category of people are citizens who suddenly begin to notice that they often began to be late somewhere, although they did not notice this before.
Nevertheless, for all categories of citizens, a labor code qualifies being late for work as a disciplinary offense, i.e. improper performance by a person of his functional duties (part 1 of article 182 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation). At the same time, the measure of influence on the employee is determined by the head depending on the frequency of the misconduct, the circumstances under which this happened, and the employee’s attitude to fulfillment of his duties (Part 5 of Article 192 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation). The staff of many labor organizations currently has a position of a psychologist who can help to understand the true reasons for the lateness of workers and help everyone find their own way to eliminate this shortcoming.
Possible reasons for being late:
1) In psychoanalysis, Freud pointed out the reason for a person’s lateness as forgetting intentions, i.e. using the opportunity to postpone the execution of the necessary action. A person can refuse (forget) to fulfill his intention at all if the motive of his actions is deeply personal and reasonable for him. The author suggests analyzing the case of a young man being late for a date. During the year he never allowed himself such an action, and suddenly various objective reasons appear that prevent him from arriving at the meeting on time. A beloved girl may say that he began to less desire to meet, and maybe even avoid them. A similar phenomenon can also be found in cases where being late for work becomes regular, when a person no longer seeks to devote all his time to this type of activity, when work ceases to be pleasant. Delays become a kind of provocation for the leadership, which is forced to dismiss the employee for the regular failure to fulfill his functional duties. Maybe just change the unloved work to a more attractive activity in a timely manner?
2) Being late for work or study can be a way to attract attention from people who can’t assert themselves in the team in another way. All students who are in the audience pay attention to the late student: the lecture is interrupted, attention is switched. The doctor of pedagogical sciences A.S.Belkin at his lectures allowed a latecomer only to enter the audience if he tells a substantial joke and gives him a pedagogical interpretation. Those. a late student should not think in advance of an excuse for being late, but think about what he will tell and how he will interpret. The student group could help a fellow student, i.e. the lesson turned into a fascinating pedagogical analysis of life situations. Could each student afford such attention from the lecturer and classmates? Who could not - arrived on time.
3) Being late for work or being late for work after work can be used by people as a powerful means of emotional impact on others, but it is used mainly with close people who worry about someone who did not arrive at the appointed place on time. This technique is often used by adolescents, forcing parents to worry, fantasize, worry about their child. Thus, they try to “return” those parents who were with them during the period of preschool childhood: attentive, caring, omnipotent, who always found themselves next to the baby in difficult situations.
An adult who is late for work and thinks that the boss, as a parent figure, will worry about him, is often mistaken. The boss is worried, but more about the discipline, productivity and stability of his enterprise.
Being late for work can be a mere coincidence. But any event in life has a reason. It is important to analyze in a timely manner what caused a delay in work this time: unwillingness to work, conflict in the team, fatigue, illness, desire to demonstrate oneself or make other people worry about themselves. Maybe it’s time to grow up and begin to deal with the cause of the disease, and not with its symptoms?
