The German company Schuberth is a recognized leader in the manufacture of helmets. Their equipment is considered the best in the world, they are akin to BMW or Mercedes Benz, set the bar for others and create models that will keep the quality standard for years, if not decades. Lightness, sound insulation and impeccable quality are the hallmarks of Schuberth.
After the "Formula"
The well-known model, the Schuberth SR1 helmet, was designed with the participation of Michael Schumacher and received the prize as the “Helmet of 2011”. The famous driver after his first departure from the “Formula 1 ″ used this helmet during his short career in motorsport. That is why the Schuberth SR1 has the features of Formula equipment. And today, some of the F1 racers prefer the helmets of this particular company as a legislator in the field of security.
Alone with nature
Open helmets are often referred to as the helmet, as well as open-face. These models appeared first and became widespread in the fifties of the last century. Their main distinguishing feature is the missing lower front protective arch: the helmet covers the head only in front, behind and on the sides. At first glance, it seems that this is completely unsafe, but such equipment gives a feeling of greater freedom, the visibility is greatly increased. It is very convenient at low speeds and in urban conditions, when you constantly have to open the visor. However, if the driver wants an open helmet, the motorcycle arsenal must be supplemented with special glasses.
The open helmet Schuberth J1 has differences from its counterparts. This is a small diameter additional power arc in the lower part of the visor that closes the lower power frame. The helmet is comfortable and, which is generally characteristic of all products of this brand, has a low noise level. It is very convenient that in addition to the main visor, there is a second one, anti-solar with tinting. If necessary, it can be removed inside. Another model, also the open helmet Schuberth M1, also has an additional arch of rigidity. The external protective visor fits seamlessly into the design, but the helmet can be operated in both versions. There is also an internal anti-sun visor. The M1 has audio preparation for the proprietary Bluetooth headset SRC System.
Comfort and safety
A large, almost full view is what an open helmet will provide. A 3/4 motorcycle helmet is suitable for those who prefer to ride in the city, but in bad weather, for example during heavy rain, it may not be the most practical solution.
One of the things that can be included in the shortcomings of almost all Schubert brand helmets is a standardized internal profile. The designers of the company did not seem to take into account that people sometimes have very different head shapes, and therefore those who do not fit the "standards" may experience some discomfort when wearing a helmet.
Motorcyclists complain of a narrowing in the jaw area, however in the Schuberth J1 helmet this seems to have been fixed. He sits better than the rest, possibly due to the lack of a hard chin. Due to their wider profile, a large number of people will find the Schuberth J1 helmet comfortable. The price for all models of this brand starts from 25-30 thousand rubles, J1 is no exception, despite the fact that the helmet is open.
New part
The Schuberth open helmet has one truly innovative solution. This is an arch to protect the chin, made to give greater rigidity. The material used for the production is a special plastic. The arc is placed in special grooves on both sides. A signal saying that everything fell into place is a characteristic click. To remove the arc, just click on the red sliders located on both sides of the helmet. They can be unfastened one by one, and it does not matter if the helmet is in the dressed position.

Schuberth experts say that in the event of an impact, the arc will dissipate the power energy directed to the chin over the entire surface of the helmet. To the question that it can catch and lead to a neck injury, the designers answer that they have provided such an opportunity: the arc will automatically unhook if the pulling force exceeds the permissible one. In this case, a dangerous load on the neck is excluded, but because of this, do not put any objects in the Schubert helmet and carry it, holding on to the arc: a self-releasing mechanism may work, which will lead to a fall.
New mount
In the latest models of this brand, a new type of fastener is used, which in the original is called quick-release. Opinions regarding expediency differ. Some say that old mounts are better (bearing in mind two D-shaped rings), others - that the so-called simple-complex from Schubert is more reliable, although less convenient. If there is no additional lining on the helmet, this clasp will rub the neck. However, innovations do not enter our lives right away, and perhaps in the future Schubert designers will finalize their system and motorcyclists will call it the simplest and most reliable. In any case, I am glad that the thoughts of engineers do not stand still.
Microclimate
Good ventilation and low noise are probably the exact opposite of each other when it comes to helmets. If one is at a height, then the second leaves much to be desired, and vice versa. Balance in this thin system is not possible for everyone, but we can say that Schubert specialists did it better than others. Here you can note the helmet “Schubert” SR1, here, probably, the fact that the equipment from the “Formula 1’ ”was at the forefront has played its role. No, this helmet does not provide the best sound insulation, it is even inferior to other models of its brand, but the point is different. It has an amazing degree of ventilation, and, given this, the sound insulation still remains at its best.
The designers envisioned various situations and provided the helmet with two ventilation ducts, which open at will with the help of separate sliders. On the chin there is also an air intake hole, it consists of two parts: a large lower channel, and above it a second, separate channel, which serves to blow the inside of the visor. Thus, no condensation forms in the helmet.
All openings are adjustable, you can open them completely, partially or completely close, however, there is one drawback: the air intake mesh can pass individual small insects, which can be very unpleasant when driving at high speeds.
The Schuberth S2 helmet, which the company itself positions as a tourist, also showed a good performance.
What is the main thing?
Much has already been said about the Schubert brand, but what absolutely everyone loves him for is weight, or rather, his absence. All the flaws recede into the background when a motorcyclist picks up this almost weightless helmet. For example, the SR1 mass for the XS size is only 1290 g, and for XXL - 1400 g (fluctuation within 50 g is possible). Needless to say, the Schuberth open helmet weighs no more than one kilogram! And of course, impeccable design that will not leave indifferent even a very discriminating person. All helmets are available in several colors, with a glossy or matte finish.
