Thinking about the repair in the house, people are considering a variety of options for decorating the room. As a rule, various design options for walls, floors, and ceilings are considered. There are many of them today. In this article we will try to tell you about how you can arrange the ceiling. After all, the final result of the transformations in the room largely depends on this choice.
Not all owners know which ceilings are and which are the best. We will talk about this in this article.
What are the ceilings?
A few decades ago, such a question would have surprised our grandmothers. They did not think about the ceilings in the apartment. Traditionally, stucco and whitewashing were used for their design. Today's owners are more difficult to answer this question.
To begin with, we will present you the most common options for ceiling structures. These include:
- whitewashed;
- painted;
- pasted over with wallpaper;
- glue;
- outboard;
- from drywall;
- cassette
- rack and pinion;
- filed;
- stretch.
As you can see, the list is pretty impressive. Now you know what types of ceilings are. Many of them are already familiar to our compatriots. Therefore, in this article we want to tell you what stretch ceilings are.
This type of construction is the most stylish today. It can not be called budget, however, it has a number of advantages that make many choose this option.
Advantages and disadvantages
First of all, it is a very attractive appearance. The new material is presented in a huge range of colors. It combines perfectly with other suspended structures. Knowing what stretch ceilings are, you can choose an option for any interior style.
A well-made ceiling (suspended) is able to withstand several tens of liters of water. This coating does not require complicated maintenance.
Disadvantages:
- installation should be done by specialists;
- high price;
- susceptible to damage by sharp objects, as a result, requires expensive repairs;
- reacts to temperature extremes: during intense heat it sags a little, and partially loses elasticity in cold weather,
Varieties of ceilings
It is impossible not to say that stretch ceiling structures are capable of unrecognizable changes in the interior of even the smallest premises. Buyers need to know what stretch ceilings are. Types of these structures can be divided into three independent groups:
- according to the installation method;
- on the invoice;
- by color.
This modern ceiling structure consists of an elastic canvas that is evenly stretched between a baguette (profile) system made of plastic or aluminum. What are the ceilings? Today, two types of such structures are distinguished: film, fabric. Let's consider each view in more detail.
Film ceilings
They are made of PVC film and mounted with heating the room and its subsequent cooling (thermal shrinkage method). This type of ceiling is used most often. This is due to the large selection of textures: matte, glossy, suede, satin, mirror.
They are called French ceilings, since the idea of ββcreating film materials appeared in France. Knowing what stretch ceilings (types) are, you can choose satin ceilings that create an effective play of light. Such a coating will never get bored.
Despite the obvious advantages of the film coating, the stretch ceiling with its use is quite fragile, it is easy to damage it with any sharp object during operation or inaccurate installation.
Fabric ceilings
They are based on woven canvas, covered in the production process with a special composition that gives the material strength. Different manufacturers impregnating composition (like thread) are different. The stretch fabric is much stronger than the film and is practically not afraid of significant sharp temperature drops.
However, the color palette and ductility of such coatings are limited. Fabrics can only have a matte texture. This has its advantages. You can decorate such a ceiling with a photograph of a beautiful landscape, an original pattern. A painting painted by a brush of a familiar artist can be applied to it. The dullness of the fabric ceiling gives the image depth and expression.
Ready-made designs
If you still have no idea how you want to see your ceiling, contact one of the companies in your city that produces stretch ceilings. The company's designer will offer you an interesting design option or a finished composition. For example, Starry Sky is very popular. This is one of the most popular designs. She will fill your home with romance. Such a ceiling can also be used in a children's room.
Levels
What are the design ceilings? They can be divided into three groups:
- stepped;
- single-level;
- multi-level.
Types of installation
Specialists use two types of installation of tension structures:
- cold installation;
- hot mounting method.
Canvas Width
In accordance with this classification of tension structures, the following types are available to consumers today: ceilings of seamless and suture type. Only fabric webs can be seamless. They are produced in rolls of large width (up to 5 m), and the film coating was welded together for a long time from each other from canvases about a meter and a half wide.
Today, manufacturers of PVC tension films from China began to produce them in wide rolls, which allows the installation of ceilings without seams, which can spoil the appearance of the finished product.
Fastening technology
First of all, these are harpoon ceilings. Using the harpoon, the web is secured to a baguette installed around the perimeter of the room.
The non-harpoon method of fixing the ceiling is used when mounting cloths from the fabric, which exert less effort on the baguette to peel. In this case, a special wedge design is used, in which the edge of the canvas is fixed.
How to choose a stretch ceiling?
Before choosing a material, carefully measure the width and length of your room. If one of the sides of the room does not exceed three meters, then 2.7 meter wide canvases will suit you (Germany). They will help create an excellent seamless ceiling. If the dimensions of one side of the room are 3.1-3.5 meters, then you will need paintings of at least 3.5 meters (Belgium, China). If the size of the room exceeds 3.5 meters, then you can make a seamless ceiling using fabric cloths Clipso, Cheryti, Dercor.
Care
We have already said that stretch ceilings have an antistatic coating, which reduces dust. Typically, to remove small contaminants, it is sufficient to occasionally wipe the surface with a dry soft cloth and even less frequently carry out wet cleaning.
Meanwhile, the care of such ceiling coverings depends on the room in which they are installed. In rooms in which the humidity is significantly increased, cloths will have to be washed more often. It is about bathrooms, loggias and kitchens. The surface should be cleaned very carefully to prevent micro-scratches.
Can such constructions be washed? Yes, it is possible, but following a simple rule - used detergents in their composition should not contain abrasive substances. The best solution for washing ceilings is a soap solution, liquid ammonia solution or special polishes.
